Thanks John.  And you are absolutely right, I do need to be in the "now" a bit more and enjoy this weight loss because it is SO nice to finally have taken an approach to weight loss that is actually working and working well. :)

I'm 5'6 and when I I graduated high school I weighed 147. When I finished Navy bootcamp 6-7 months later I had gained 25 pounds. I was in the Navy for about 12 years and  was on the fat boy program the whole time because of nothing ore that my height to weight ratio. I could outperform 95% of everyone else on the mandatory PT tests. I could do close to 200 sit ups in 1 min, I could do about 150-175 push ups in a min and run a mile in half in about 8 min. yet every shore command I was on, three times a week I had to run 5 miles a day and do about an hour of calisthenics.

From the time I got out of the Navy i***** until about 2000 I maintained my weight below 200 and then from 200 to 2005 I was about 225. my goal is to get down to 170-180, very comfortable and very capable. I would say that I am heavy framed. and I'm not lying, I want to be a bad ass again.

Hey Texas.  It sounds like you have quite the motivation!  I have no doubt that your inner bad ass will make his way forward once again.  I will tell you, since this surgery, I have felt better than I have in years.  That good feeling has led to staying focused on the eating plan and working out regularly instead of dreading the pain from a real workout.  Bring forth the bad asses!

To hell with Height and Weight Charts because we all know that means BMI and someone is going to choose a goal based on BMI which is total crap when applied to the individual level.  Remember the BMI was a math formula designed to show the "Health" of a population.  BMI takes nothing into account other than Height and Weight.

A better and more accurate representation of an individuals health is the Body Fat % as this takes other factors into account when it comes to determines an individuals health.

If you have an individual than is 6 foot tall and weighs 185 and has a Body fat % of 30  he is considered normal weight according to the BMI but his body fat % puts him into an overweight status.

Individual again 6 foot tall and weighs 221 and has a body fat % of 15 is considered obese by BMI standards and Athletic by body fat %.

So who is the healthier person? Which person would you rather be?  Oh yeah and both individuals probably where the same size clothes.

Now take it to a more personal level.  If a person weighs 221 and has a body fat % of 15 it means he is carrying roughly 187 pounds of lean muscle.  It would be unhealthy for this individual to get to a normal BMI as it would require an extremely low body fat % or even worse the loss of lean muscle!

Now I know I haven't posted on this forum much but I am not a big fan of goal weights but rather in setting goals that you know with work are obtainable.  As Don has said you body is going to do what it is going to do and you may never see that goal weight.

Goals such as wear normal Clothes, Ride a roller coaster, PLAY WITH MY KIDS!  or my fave which I get more than a few people to go for Finish a race a 5K or something like that.  These types of goals have a defined and obtainable place.  The day you play ball with your kids and don't feel like dieing or better yet they are dripping with sweat and sucking wind and you are still going now that is an accomplishment.  If you look at my sig you can see my history of goals and I always have more than 1.  While my goal is 3 70.3 Triathlons next year I already have a 2014 goal of a Full Ironman.

Your goals should be about embracing and enjoying life, relishing all of the things you were never able to do before.  As Fat people we defined ourselves and allowed society to define us based upon a number on a scale, why continue that pattern as a healthy person?  Hell I love going to the Peachtree Road Race as a 220+ pound guy knowing that 25-30 THOUSAND people will be slower than me 60K people run this race.  What is an even bigger pleasure is being in my start corral and seeing "Healthier" Looking people going to their start waves WAY!!! Behind mine.  Knowing that I will be across the finish line before some of those people even start.

Find what you love in life and make that a goal not a freaking number on the scale.

BAAAHAHAHAHA

That whole thing started as a joke among a small group of people after I made an observation, and it has evolved into what it is today.  If you notice I never ask for them to post, but rather simply point out their failure to do so. lol
