 My Stats:

High weight: 296
Weight at initial consult 1-19-2012: 269
Weight at surgery 4-23-12: 230
Last week: 177
This week: 177
Total weight lost: 93

Hey Fellas,

We made a bittersweet return home yesterday from Ohio where we laid my step-daughter to rest on Friday. She passed Monday night after a long battle with cancer. It is good to be back home but it will be awhile before things are back to normal, working hard to support my wife and daughter while we all adjust to the loss. Thank you all very much for your kind words and support, it really means alot to me.

I am flatline for the week which is flat out amazing considering the wreck my diet and exercise have been... I grabbed whatever I could, whenever I could and my fear was a huge gain for the week but I got lucky. I did try to make good choices in my snacks, meal times too often were fast food or other items that are on my black-list. It is back to the routine starting today.

One pound of my recent 3 pound gain seems to be better accuracy in my new scale, I got to compare the two for the first time this morning and the new scale is in closer agreement with my doctors scale than the old one was. I will be using the new scale from now on... it measures fat% and hydration... any ideas on what are good goals for these two numbers? My body fat is approx. 19% right now... I think this new scale will do nicely when it comes to figuring out if I am converting fat lbs to muscle lbs.

Hope you all have a fantastic week, keep up the good work!

Brian

Maintaining as expected again this week- lots of long work days but a local oyster festival in Wellfleet has broken up the monotony. I did indulge in a couple of Sam Adams Lager and some oysters on the half shell, grilled shrimp and lobster for dinner. I'm definitely not used to the keg beer- they went through 125 kegs of it on Sat.- that and the raw shellfish have resulted in a few room-clearing "gutterballs" that my family has accused me of emitting this morning. I am blaming it on the dog and sticking to my story.

Pats at 4:30, I'm laying low with the wife today as the weather is inclement and my motivation is in the ****ter. A little discomfort in my right knee has shelved any long runs this week, hopefully it's only temporary. We'll see.

That's it for now, good luck to the rest of ya!

Brian, sorry for your family loss. Prayers to you and your family.

I am down 2 lbs from last weight in, and trying to stay on task. Trying not listen to people who think I now have an eating disorder. I have to remember to eat healthy. I have even had a nightmare where I dreamed I was quickly regaining weight.

Stay strong my friends.  You guys are the best support for this journey.

    My stats this week:

           High weight:  392 lbs
Pre-op Weight 4 Aug 09:  377.5 lbs
Last week:  214.4 lbs / 19.7% body fat / 163.8 lbs muscle mass
This week:  215.0 lbs / 20.5% body fat / 162.6 lbs muscle mass

Pulled a ligament in my left forearm during my Tuesday strength training workout.  Probably didn’t stretch warm up enough.  That’s what happens when 52 yr old muscles get cold stressed.  So, I’ve had to take it easy lifting and focus more on the cardio.  Still hurts so I’ll take off upper body strength training this week too.

Brian, the scales that use Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) measure you body’s electrical impedance to estimate your body fat, muscle mass, body water, and bone mass based on formulas from empirical data.  Body fat is accurate within +/- 3%.  However, if you are consistent in how you measure, you can accurately track your progress.  Be sure to weigh at the same time of day; to empty your bladder; and drink 8 oz of water before measuring to get the most accurate readings.  Being dehydrated can throw off your readings.  My body water has been running about 56%.  Healthy men have body water percentages from 50 to 65%.  For body fat percentage the chart for men age 40-59 indicates healthy to be 11 to 22%.

Have a great week!

Hi Everyone,

Brian I am so sorry for your loss, you are in my thoughts and prayers.

It's been four weeks since my last post. I've lost 11.2 lbs. I guess I haven't been focusing with work and family life causing me a little stress. My exercise has been sporadic lately too. I hope to get back on track this week.

Take care guys ,,, CJ

Good Afternoon,

I was very busy over the weekend so did not have a chance to post.

First, Brian sorry for your loss, my prayers and thoughts are with you and your family.

The Wrap Sheet:

346: All time high 7/1/10 - BMI = 52
326: Tufts Medical Center, Surgery 12/27/10 BMI=49
196: Last Weigh In 10/1/12
199: This Week 10.15.12 -->Up 3 lb
150: Total Weight Loss

As usual, happy as I stayed under 200. Still never like an uptick, need to work harder at food choices and exercise, and water intake which I sometimes over look..

Overall during the past weeks my food intake has been good. Generally, I try to use my mindful eating tips I learned as I prepped for surgery during the day. Even if I make a poor choice, I try not to let it bum me out and just try to do better on my next choice.
I always try to keep in mind that this is a Marathon, not a sprint and changing years of bad habits with healthier and better choices is a daily challenge that I am willing to meet head on!!

In terms of exercise I have been consistently running or getting  to they gym 2-3 times a week and do some weight training. I think the hardest thing with ANY exercise, is making the time to do it.

Hope all of you have a nice week...

Yours in WLS,
Bill
