3 month Plateau?

Hi guys,

Sitting about 3 monthss our (RNY on July 2nd) and have been steadily losing about 4lbs/week.  However, about a week and a half ago I just stopped dropping and have maintained at the same number for about 10 days now.  Still drinking and eating nearly exactly how I was previous to the plateau (600-800 calories/day).  I have increased my exercise routine in the past 3 weeks as I am beginning to train 4 days/week for a 5k race in December (which still rocks my world to think about compared to where I was physically).

Is this normal to have a plateau?  Should I be "concerned"?  I'm certainly not stressing out over it, but it does bother me a bit.

Thanks!

Nicholas

try increasing your calories a little. maybe a 200 cal protein shake. body can start storing fat after it is in ketosis.

definitely up the calories - trick your body into thinking it's ok to stop starvation mode and it will give up the goods

Def increase the cals - addition of a post workout protein bar would fit the bill.  If you are training 1 hr / day, you're probably burning 700-900 cals.  So, you're in a huge caloric deficit.  Your BMR has probably dropped through the floor.  You didn't say what your daily protein intake is but with that activity should be 100g minimum.

At any rate, a plateau at 3 mo is pretty typical for RNY.

I went throught the same thing, increasing the calories with another shake(which the doc recomended) got me over the hump.  My weight loss is a series of stalls for a week or two then a drop, it has become normal.

I want to thank you guys for the insight.  I have upped my protein today and calorie intake and hoping that will help.  I have my 3 month followup with a dietician next week so I'm hoping they'll help guide me on my nutrition more with the increased activity level.
