Let's talk yogurt
I'm wondering why all the positive hype about yogurt. Let me begin by saying that I like yogurt and have eaten it in varying amounts since my surgery. And, I'll add that as I rule I cannot use artificial sweeteners. So, I'm eating regular yogurt and looking at the label this morning. 26 grams of sugar, 5 grams of protein. Doesn't look real good in comparison to the protein bars I generally have for breakfast.
I buy the protein bars that have about 20 grams of protein and I always limit the sugars to less than the amount of protein in the bar. For about the same calories, I'm getting four times the protein and far less sugar. I just don't see the reason yogurt is so high on many nut's lists.

Hi Ken,
Yogurt is gross with little to offer as far as I am concerned... Non-fat Greek yogurt on the other hand is low in calories and high in protein, I love the kind with fruit on the bottom, nutrition chart here:

IMO the sugar hit is worth the protein.

I am of no use to your "topic", as I am in a whole different yogurt world. However, just for my own selfish reasons, I reply anyway:
I don't eat greek yogurt. Every one I have tried, I have not only not liked, but spit out! However, I will eat the heck out of the frozen yogurt that they offer at Berrylicious, CherryBerry, etc. I know they are not good for me, not anywhere close to what my NUT meant when they suggested yogurt, but I love it. I know it is one reason why I haven't lost any weight in the last few weeks. (That and I am within 10-15 lbs of my goal)
However, I have made the same observation. Yogurt isn't horrible for you, but I don't see it as some great food for you either. Usually pretty high in sugar. I too prefer the protein bar... Eat one every morning for breakfast...

I love the stuff but am very careful as to what ones I choose. I get the plane Oikos Greek yogurt in the quart size. Then go to the frozen fruits and choose a mixture that has no added sugar. I then empty the contents into a bowl and mix with some Splenda for taste. A 1/4 cup serving yields 15-20gr of carbs depending on the fruit, 20gr of protein and 150-160 cal. I love the stuff.
