A work in progress

I have been working hard at the weight loss for the past year and a half and I know I am getting results but it is still difficult to take compliments....not sure why.  My Parents and Grand mother were making a big deal of what a drastic change I have made but I just knod and say thanks and look for ward to the uncomfortable topic to change.  This morning my Mom sent me a side by side comparison from where I was last fall to today and I was impressed.

I guess I need to step back once in a while and realize how far I have come.  I intend to loose another 40lb to get to my goal of 230 by the end of this year.  Thanks all for the support.

The mental aspect of WLS is not covered very well in the seminars and brochures!  The roller coaster engineers at Disney or Six Flags could not ever come up with a ride as wild as the mental side of WLS.  From the "what the hell have I done to myself" stage through the downsizing of the wardrobe, to the compliments and being treated like a different person.  The further out I am the fewer people in my immediate circle who knew me as a larger person.  I have to get them to vouch for me to anyone new that I meet and tell them I used to be a larger person.

Never, and I mean NEVER, trust a fart!!

Very well put.  I have gone through most of those stages thus far.

You are kicking butt my man!!! I know what you mean on the compliment part. I'm like that to but I think for me it's harder to accept because like you said it's a "work in progress" and until I get to goal I feel I'm not finished with that part of the WLS. I'm the kind of person who has to "win" before I can celebrate too much.
It's hard to tell the guy in the pics are the same person!

Great Job! .........So far!

Thanks Stony...I am the same way.  I realize I have come a long ways but the time to celebrate is still to come.!!  Hope you are doing well.

That is awesome, it really helps to keep my brain straight by doing the before/after pictures!!  Our psy*****harge of my local WLS meeting suggested them up front and they really do make a difference.

I keep a few of them in my profile here as well hoping it helps others!  We did pictures yesterday at the office and I uploaded the old/new one!

Keep it up!

i believe when we go through such changes self perception in ourselves vs others perception of us is rarely on the same page.  I am down 103 now and I still dont feel like I am but others say wow you look great.  I say thanks but sometimes I think man I must have looked like hell before.  I dont recognize myself anymore I have to take a second look quite often.  I too want to drop another 40-50 but that still seems like a mountainous achievement.  I have really worked on giving up worrying or stressing over the scale, and concentrate on eating healthy food in healthy amounts and let the rest work itself out as long as the body improves

I think you need to give your mom a great big hug, she is awesome. Mom's know exactly what we need at all times. You are doing an amazing job thus far, keep it up and you will be at your goal in no time.
I have to agree with you, it is very awkward to get compliments in the beginning, but after awhile you get used to it.
