Help...
Well I've had a hell of a day. Im hoping someone can give me some advise. I started the day with the chills so bad I could no talk. I checked my blood sugar and it was around 10.5 but my stomach is not right, I warmed up and had another bout around supper time. I've never been so cold in all my lift. I can't comer up with any reason for the chills...not running a temp....just vibrating big time and piling the blanckets on to warm up. Anyone have any Ideas?
When did you have your surgery and how much weight have you lost? During rapid weightloss we lose the insulation that we are so accustom too...Think a skinny polar bear. The first few years I was cold all the time and I mean all the time!! I was working outside and it was 102 in the shade...I was cold (I kid you not). After a few years the body adjusts but for right now you need to get use to it. A few ideas in no special order; Ask for thermal underwear for birthdays and holidays. Use more blankets at night and try a electric blanket on your part of the bed. Warm thermal socks...They usually cost between $12-18 dollars a pair...but well worth it. During winter I would keep throwing a sweater or shirt into the dryer on high for a few minutes to feel the warmth. Even a head covering will help; scarf, nightcap, cap, whatever you wear in Canada in the winter...wear now. Good luck, Brian
Sampson,
About the blood sugar, in the US we use perhaps a different scale with 100 micrograms per deciliter being ideal. Is 10.5 a normal reading for you? If so, I think Brian is exactly right, the first four months I was freezing a lot, though I never had it as bad as you describe. I did learn the joys of wearing socks to bed and slept much better that way. A reasonably hot beverage may help break the chills.
Blessings,
Roger

I too had some problems regulating my body temperature in the early stages when the weight loss was so rapid., but nothing like you described. Of course your diabetes does complicate things.
Glad to hear that it resolved itself quickly. Weird things happen when you are eating so little and loosing weight so quickly... or.. are we just hyper sensitive to changes in our body following surgery? Unless it's life threatening I usually waited it out and most "weird" symptoms seemed to resolve themselves within 24 hours. Like the others have reported I was surprised how cold I would feel once I lost my protective layer of fat.. also surprised when my bony ass would hurt from sitting!! lol
