Yeah, the doctors (surgeons) have known about this issue for about 4 years (RNY).  I remember my surgeon walking into the local support group and saying they had 2 recent issues with thiamin deficiency (beri beri).  They said all RNYer need to start a B-Complex right away.  This is just me...I nibble on a B-Complex pill througout the day...Just to make sure all my nutrients get in.

So, does the B12 sublingual count for this? I'm not sure I even know where thiamin comes from...the thiamin fairy?

I do also take a B-12...But may skip a day or two because of the nibbling.  The B-Complex has the B-1 and B-12 in it.  By nibbling, it enters the whole system to begin with...Immediate absorption.  It taste gross!!...If you try it.  I'm use to it.  I keep one in my pockets too...Take it out if I can remember and discreetly do a nibble...
I know this may sound weird, but it is one of those quirky things you adjust to that works for me...  Bye the way, that sounds like cool thread to start on the Men's Forum here...

I have a B-50 Complex that I take (well supposed to take...) that has 50 mg of Thiamin (3333% of daily value) that I was recommended by my nut.

My 2nd lab did not show anything low (it was my B level low the first time) so I have not cracked the bottle.

Take it for what it is worth but I do very little in the way of aftercare with my Surgeon.  I deal with my PCP doc when it comes to these things. I have a very good relationship and even at over 2 years post op I will have my labs drawn 3-4 times a year to make sure things are good.  Hell you could be bad for 10 months and not know you have issues until your annual.  I trust my surgeon when it comes to how he did my innards everything else I farm out to experts in those areas.
