I have been getting back into mountain biking and am really enjoying myself again.  Below are some pictures of our trips, I have been averaging 20-30mi a week.

That looks like so much fun!!  I would love to do that but am worried about falling and breaking something.  With RNY there is malabsorption so I wonder if my bones become more brittle than the average guy (I'm 5 1/2 years out).  How do you handle the hills?  Do you have to do the "walk of shame"...Where you walk the bike up the hill...Or do you just do a slow and steady pace and then get off or walk when tired?  Enjoy the ride...

I try to push myself up the hills and keep my legs moving until I just can't go anymore.  Once I hit this point I get off and wal****il I catch my wind or the terrain levels out enough to get back on.  One of the guys I ride with is an absolute animal on climbs.  He rides over Moore Mountain from his house to work everyday when the weather permits....thats 4.5mi each way up from 4000' to the top at 5600'+ twice each day.  I meet him at his office after work tonight and rode with him to his house, I ended up getting off the bike a handful of times near the top where it gets steep, rocky and technical but was proud of myself! I was able to make the first 1200 verticle feet before having to throw in the towel and get off the bike.

I didn't take many pictures today but here are a few.  We started at the office near the lake Ewauna level in this picture.

Pure and utter torture for the first few weeks.   I ended up going to Walmart and buying a 2" thick padded gel seat (the widest and softest one they had) and I ran that for a couple rides.  I am now used to a standard seat so I have switched back.

 Cycle Shorts!

Not to worry they don't have to be the skin tight ones that we wear on Roadie bikes but having the built in padding can be a life saver!

I wondered about those... any good suggestions on where to buy them?  Amazon?

IF you wear normal "L" shorts, do you use the same size in bike shorts?  According to the size chart it looks like they seem to run smaller?

I am a huge fan of using a Local Bike Shop (LBS) Whenever possible.  When first starting out getting quality gear they can help you make sure that you are getting the right fit and the pros and cons of the various brands.  When it comes to shorts fit can be key to big and you will be uncomfortable to small and well your boyz won't be happy.  Also when it comes to the padding different types and styles have good and bad points, some may pinch other may wear faster.  When it comes to the quality skin tight spandex, lycra types embrace you manliness and go for it!  These type offer some compression for excess skin plus if you ride enough you will have Legs that you should be proud to show off.

I bought a bike last fall but have not ridden it much yet except around the neighborhood.  But those pictures are inspiring!! I used to see those kinda views from my Jeep, but they are closing trails left and right for OHV access.

So hiking and biking are the future for seeing the great outdoors and good for us too!
