Pleasantly surprised to see the scale finally move and lost 3 pounds this week. Just when I think that I am in maintenance mode the scales surprise me again. Go figure!! Didn't really change much although I did a lot of outdoor physical work this past week getting my pool ready for the season so I would imagine that is what gave me the boost.

I went to the beach yesterday for first time and there is a pretty good walk (about 1/4 of mile) through deep beach sand that usually has me huffing, puffing and stopping a few times along the way that was pretty much effortless even while carrying a big chair and cooler. I still carry my big steel frame beach chair that would hold 500 pounds so it is heavy as a son of a gun. I might need to start shopping around for a light weight version now that I won't cru****!! The ocean was very cold (50's) but I still jumped in anyway. Came out about as fast as I went in but did take a quick plunge. It was nice and I can't wait to be able to swim again!

Had a funny moment while shaving with a razor (usually use an electric) which I hadn't done for a while and noticed that I now have a jaw line instead of having to shave over my formally full face I now have to go over my jaw line on the side of my face and it is actually indented (maybe not the best word but you get the idea) the way it should be. Not sure if I'm describing it correctly but to suffice it to say it was a strange feeling to look closely in the mirror and see my razor conforming to my now normal sized face. I never really thought about losing weight in my face but if I compare my driver's license photo to the way I am now what a difference. A completely different person.

Spent all day Friday and Saturday morning getting my 24' above ground pool ready for the season. Had to patch a hole in the side of the metal frame and also fix a couple holes in the liner. Its almost full now and should be ready for some action soon!! Amazing how easy it was to do work like this now. I love my new life! Good stuff.

Well, off to visit seven cemetaries, pay our respects and spruce up all of the family plots and honor my family members who have served in the military to make sure their flags are flying high on this wonderful Memorial Day weekend.

Morning men,

My Stats:

High weight: 296
Weight at initial consult 1-19-2012: 269
Weight at surgery 4-23-12: 230
Last week: 204
This week: 200
Total weight lost: 69  

     Looks like 4 lbs is my magic number for a weekly loss, 2 in a row so far. I missed Century City by .4 lbs! Hopefully next week I will have made it... I have not had a 1 at the front of my weight since Junior High School, 30+ years ago! My Nut and Surgeon put my goal at around 180 lbs, I will be happy if I settle out between there and 160.  I know I started this trip as a relative "lightweight" and compared to the amount of weight many have loss mine is peanuts but the end result for me is still a huge victory, I am being given a new life that I love! Those of you thinking about or who just had surgery... It is all worth it!  

     Major Fart this week but unrelated to my weight loss, I've begun to communicate with my daughter again. I put this in because it seems that many folks with daughters in their late teens have issues with rebellion and bad decision making. I had a real breakthrough as soon as I realized that my child's' bad decisions now have nothing to do with how I raised her. The values and other things I taught her are still there, she is just not using them right now. I took it really personally when she got off track because I thought it meant I was a bad parent, I took ownership of her bad decisions but I should not have. She knows I still love and support her but her decisions which have turned her life and plans upside down are hers, she owns them and I've been set free from the guilt and thinking that I failed her. HTH someone, I thank my sister-in-law who helped me make sense of it all.  

     On this Memorial Day weekend, thanks to all of those who have served and who have given their lives for our freedom. My Mom and Dad both served and although they are no longer with us I know they are with me every day.  

     Those of you with kids: Grab them, hug them every day... Let them know they are loved and keep them safe.

 Amen Brother!!  Great post and your accomplishments are awesome!  You'll get into Century City before you know it!  I love your take on your relationship with your daughter and you are spot on!  I'm off to squeeze my girls (8 & 9 years old) now!!

Down 4.8lbs.  Broke the 300 mark!  Thats pretty exciting!  
 I've got a question this week?  When did you guys start excersicing after surgery? I walk everyday, but I was wondering when its ok to start running?  I feel like I'm ready to kick up my exercise but I'm not sure if I should.

My doctor did not release me for running and full exercise until 6 weeks post-op.  I felt fine and like I could do it after about 3, but I promised myself to stay on his plan, EXACTLY and that is what I have done.  He did release me to do light exercise after 3 weeks, but not anything more for 6 weeks.

Hi Blake,

Congrats on breaking the 300 mark. I know it was very exciting when that happened to me!

As far as exercise, might wanna check w/ ur doc to be sure it is ok. In any event, when you start you will LOVE it...feels really good to be able to work out as you lose those lbs.

Great stuff Blake.  I just recently hit that milestone myself and it was an amazing feeling.  You are doing great and keep it up!

As for exercise I recall my surgeon not allowing me to lift weights until about two months out from surgery.  I started doing the elliptical for the first six months or so and then began the C25K after a pretty good stall and then the weight loss kicked back into high gear.  Believe it or not loved the running and still do!

Either way, you may want to just put in a call to your surgeon just for a confirmation as everyone has a different approach and timeline.
