Sunday Morning Weigh In
This Week's Stats (lbs):
506.5: All time high 9/9/9 (WW start) - BMI = 63.3
492.4: Tufts Medical Center Program Start 9/20/10
462.5: Lap RNY Surgery day 2/7/11
291.4: Last Week 5/6/12
291.4: This Week 5/13/12 --> Holding steady this week - BMI = 36.4
215.1 lbs Total Weight Loss
Holding steady this week with no loss or gain. Didn't eat as well as I should have but got a lot of exercise so it's good that it balanced out. Had another very busy week with the girls' softball teams and felt like I was constantly on the move this past week. I love it and the fact that I can do all of this stuff now but am looking forward to some R&R in mid June!!
Went to a Bat Mitzvah last night and was able to effortlessly dance again. It was a great feeling to just bust a move and not feel like I was going to die from shortness of breath or exhaustion. This was something I wasn't expecting last night. I think I embarrassed my oldest daughter who initially asked me to dance and then when we started to dance asked me to sit back down. My youngest daughter loved it though and was dancing as crazily as I was. I was out there pulling out 80's classic dance moves like the sprinkler, the popcorn, the Ickey Shuffle and whatever came to mind. It was fun and liberating. Good stuff!
Looking forward to another good week. It was a beautiful, sunny 80 degree day here in Massachusetts and I was able to get my deck awning put up and other assorted yard work and I hardly busted a bead of sweat. That's something for someone who would sweat standing up in the past if you know what I mean!!
Hope everyone has a great week.

Good morning Mike. As long as you weren't doing any MC Hammer moves then your ok buddy! LOL!
I went to the lung doc for a yearly check up this week and one of the things they test is how well your lungs are functioning. Well, before surgery it was at 56% and almost a year out and it's at 92%! I couldn't be happier. I feel so much better at a year out so I know I'm healthier today but now I have a little bit of science to prove it.
So I have to get refocused, I haven't really lost any weight lately because I've fallen into one of my old bad habits. I am addicted to peanut crackers! I am going to make a better effort to eat clean and drop this last fifty or so pounds and keep it off for good!
Heaviest weight 391
Surgery weight 385
This weeks weight 247
Total weight loss 144 pounds
Have a great week fellas!

Morning Gents!
Mike, I think you were OK as long as you didn't bust a seam in your dress pants doing all those MC Hammer moves... That's why he wore those parachute pants!
My Stats:
High weight: 296
Weight at initial consult 1-19-2012: 269
Weight at surgery 4-23-12: 230
Last week: 215
This week: 208
Total weight lost: 61
Down 7 this week which was week one of mushy foods. Not really feeling much like eating so I am having to really push to get the protein in. Am seeing a little hair loss already so I will have to find a way to get it done. I have a constant dry mouth so my fluid intake has been up where it should be... Any ideas on why the dry mouth?
Public service message:
Everyone who will be getting surgery or who just had it pay close attention to the guys here who are veterans and especially your doctors... I had RNY and when they say you will be punished if you eat too much, too fast please listen! I have had 2 episodes where I suffered a full day of pain and nausea because I did not listen when my belly said it was full... Public service message over...
Personal note: Those of you who have kids still at home get up from the computer, go hug them and tell them how much you love them. My only child graduates from high school this week but I won't get to see it because I allowed her to get in a relationship with the wrong person and she went down a very bad road. I am afraid that we are permanently estranged and there is nothing I can now do about it. There is no greater pain than losing someone you love very very much.
Hug them every day, guide them and keep them safe.
Brian

Brian,
Great week for you! The dry mouth is probably accompanied by bad breath and is ketosis, a byproduct of the quick weight loss. Best of my knowledge, there's not much you can do about it. The good news is that it will get better and eventually stop as your body acclimates to the new diet. If your plan permits it, sugar free gum or mints may help. And, speaking as someone who learned the hard way, listen to your body's cues about being full. Eat slowly and chew thoroughly or you will enjoy your meals twice - once going in and once coming right back up!

Hi Brian,
Love the post. Two quick comments:
Great Public Service Message: Even at 1 1/2 years out when I eat to quick or something I KNOW I cannot tolerate, I suffer for it!!
Personal Note: Never easy dealing w/ strained relations w/ the family. Your approach is on target though, you can only do the best you can.
Sincerely,
Bill
