I stopped watching Letterman over a decade ago...glad I stopped...
I'm with you on that... Unfortunately society lacks the sensitivity to be able to not make fun of somebody. What is the balance between insulting everyone for something or having the PC police censor everything? I was at a comedy club in Boston for a show by my most favorite comics... front of room off to the side. My turn came when a comic asked me what kind of porn I liked... "Name it" I said... He came back with: "Wendy's double-cheeseburger porn". I laughed yes, but I would have rather been singled out for the ugly shirt I was wearing...
I don't mind a politically incorrect comedian provided they attack everyone equally. The weight issue concerns me because despite most non-PC humor being off limits on mainstream tv, fat jokes are embraced as universally funny.
I have enjoyed Letterman through the years, but I am put off by his fat jokes...I recall many years ago hearing him call a baseball player a "fat tub of goo." Amazing how that stuck with me all this time.

Never have cared much for Letterman. Strikes me as just being an all around asshole in general.
there are three people thet are still politically correct to insult .
1) Christians
2) Nascar fans
3) Obese people
Unfortunately, I fall into 2 of the 3.
(never really got the Nascar thing, but don't put it down)
I'm always torn between "those ******** don't understand!" and " I chose to eat food...It's my own damn fault!"
Not sure where the real answer is.
Probably somewhere between.
I fall on the free-speach side of "go ahead and tell the joke"
It still hurts though.
