Move over losers!
Wow, comfy here on the bench!
My surgery went well, for those who have an RNY in their future please pay attention to all the help available here in the men's forum, the advice and support made my trip up till now so much easier. Thank you all again for that.
I had my surgery Mon. am at 7:30, I was given an antibiotic that I am allergic to so I had a rash and itching through the stay in the hospital, they knew I was allergic but gave it anyway... :-( I had a catheter in through the afternoon of the second day, my surgeon leaves it in place until the upper GI comes back OK. I was in real pain for the first 18 hours after the surgery but it was not due to the trauma but rather the huge volume of gas built up in my belly. When I went for the upper GI I told them to have the bucket ready because the contrast fluid would not be in my belly long, and I was right. Side benefit was that the heaving brought wih it massive volumes of gas and the pain went away. I was cleared for fluids, the catheter came out, and my systems started working again. Initially the fluids gave me nausea, and it turned out to be the narcotics they had me pumping into my body. My surgeon suggested easing up on the meds which took care of the nausea. Yesterday AM was spent showing them that I could tolerate protein shakes and I was discharged yesterday afternoon.
I recieved excellent care while I was in Brigham and Womens Hospital, I only ran into one nurse who was a challenge... yanking on ones catheter tubing is not well tolerated while in the PACU! The nurse *****moved it a day later will be an angel in my eyes forever!
I took a half dose of pain meds last night before bed but I think I'm done with them now. I am pushing the shakes down and burping/ farting up a storm... Life is good
Thanks again for all the support, it is much appreciated.

Hey Brother!! Good to see you back on the board and doing well at home! Like they say keep up on the fluids and get that protein in. I can speak from experience if you don't get the protein in the energy level will stay low.
Aren't you glad you weren't awake when they put the cath in!!
Glad we have one more loser on the bench!!! Keep us updated.
Take care Brian!

Congrats on the successful surgery!!!!! As you will see it is an interesting journey. Most days will be better than others and the time will fly pretty quick. As time does progress, it gets easier and easier until it is second nature.
Don't be afraid to ask any question as you will get a bunch of great answers from the folks here. I relied heavy on this forum and the great guys that are part of it.
