menopause
So what is the current consensus on freezing my tail off and then suddenly warming up. Somedays I have on hat, sweatshirt and pants and wool socks and the family thinks I'm nuts. Just curious what thoughts are. I did a little research and best I have come up with is hormones out of balance, rapid weight loss and intake all screwed up has body not knowing when to warm or cool itself. I feel like I flip flop from menopause to pms throughout the day. That mixed with being wide awake at odd hours of the day keeps me guessing . I hope Im not going to grow man boobs.
You are describing part of the journey that they don't tell you about in the color brochures you get at the Dr's office.
As you know losing weight released the hormones stored in your blubber. Guys ain't used to the fubared hormones. Expains why we are suprised at our mood swings and short fuses. Oversimplified explanation I know.
Being cold is related to loosing your "insulation". No **** My theory is that the fat kept us warm because of the blood flowing through there. Less fat = less blood flow. Less blood flow = loss of body heat = freezing your ass off.
Never, and I mean NEVER, trust a fart!!
I am cold all the time...All the time!! I've thought of moving to Arizona, but family, friends and work are here...So I put up with it (winters). One thing I do seek at holidays and birthdays...Warm thermal clothing. I've gone out and bought $12. pairs of socks...very warm for sking...Cheap won't cut it in that area!! You really learn to layer your clothing more post op with this issue. Think of a skinny polar bear...they need their fat for warmth...
Well moving to AZ is out. I have plenty of thermal everything I use hunting and ice fishing but did not plan on wearing in in the living room. I find it more frequent when I get tired. A hot shower helps but some nights I go to bed in two layers of clothes and all the blankets i can get which is just the oppisite of what I used to do. I can handle it but just curious as to what is going on inside me that causes it. I am only down about 40 pounds by the time I hit goal I will be a popsicle. Strange things are happening, I like the results, but strange just the same.
It does get better, but the first few years are a bear...See reference skinny polar bear. My first year was the worst. It was (I kid you not) 102 in the shade...I was cold that day!! I just know the fat acts like an insulation...There is also a chemical reaction, but I don't know how to explain it...
I asked one of my nurse instructors and she did not have a concrete explanation other than loss of some insulation, change in hormonal levels but I also remeber reading somewhere that digestion in a normal stomach creates a fair bit of heat and that is no longer the boiler so that may also contribute. I will have to do a little research and ask the surgical team if they know why. l enjoy finding these things out.
