Wanted to start off this week by saying Happy Easter and Happy Passover to everyone.  Hope you are able to spend some fun time with your families and friends today!

The scale blipped up a bit this week and I am most definitely flatlining in regarding weight loss but by am by no means discouraged as Ihave been exercising like a fiend and have finally hit the one week before my first 5K mark so am getting really excited for the race next Sunday (BTW, look for a guest moderator next Sunday am as I am leaving for Boston at around 5:30 - Hint, Hint Tim!!),

I have been training (Running) on the treadmill since the beginning of October and for the first time ever ran outside of the gym on Friday.  At first I was very apprehensive and nervous about leaving my comfort zone but as I put one foot in front of the other I realized that yes, I could do this and I could do this well without a problem.  I started off initially really fast and with the help of my Keeper App coach that I had on my phone was able to come to a more appropriate training pace.  I ran for 3.5 miles and it felt really good.  I thought that I had chosen a relatively flat route but realized that about 1/3 of the way on my route there was a pretty good peek and hill that I had to climb going and then returning but handled it fine both times without a problem.  What an amazing feeling.

Softball season kicked off in earnest this past week and I had two practices.  I am the manager of my daughter's 10U team so I was a bit nervous at first but did my homework and we had two really fun practices and the girls seemd to be picking things up quite well.  Again, I am amazed how much I can do on the field now from stretching to running to hitting to catching.  I am truly reborn.  It is awesome!  In case you are curious, the Blue Jays look to be a powerhouse this year.  Time will tell!  I am also the assistant coach for my other daughter's 7U team but we won't be doing anything with them until opening day on 4/21.

Well, off to see what the Easter Bunny brought my girls.

A gain of 3 this past week which reminds me it is all about routines and staying in your zone. I had little control over both as I was on the road with my family to visit my wife's daughter who is in the final stages of cancer. The doc's called Monday and told us if we wanted to visit we should come right away.This is my adopted daughter's mom so it was doubly important to get out to Ohio pronto. I will gladly take the weight gain because it meant a few vital days we got to spend with her. She is hanging on but her suffering will come to an end soon.

Hope everyone has a good holiday with family and give them all an extra hug.

Well, another 2 lbs. this week. As I approach my personal goal weight, I am thinking to myself where the real bottom is. Seems unreal and hard to wrap my head around it. I am definitely not starving myself. (Having breakfast as I type- 2 over easy and 3 ozs. of grilled rib eye). The dog is licking her chops, as usual. HA!

Mike, we had alot in common this week with the running stuff. I did my first run outdoors yesterday and went at least 4 miles with a little walking in between. I think I need to adjust the stride on my pedometer as the mileage posted on the bike path did not coincide with the reading on the equipment. When I hit the setting button, the weight input said 230 lbs. That was last September.

I had my 9 month follow up at Tufts this week and it's all good. The psycologist suggested I think up some different personal goals because I will ultimately not be focused on the scale constantly.  I'm thinking marathons. I like running.  Thu NUT was impressed I was off all meds now and implementing a weight training and cardio routine. I also signed up for a mentor program they are starting to help out the peeps who are pre-op or early out. I'm all for it- similar to this forum.

Easter is all about the food in my family (especially the wife's side, Italian) so today has always been the traditional gravitate towards heavy grazing and usually plenty of booze. 500 lbs of food for 25 people. This year the Easter bunny has suffered a fatal injury in a tragic hunting accident, so I (I mean he) will not be spending an hour hiding plastic eggs in the perimeter of my yard. Instead, the children will be hiding oversized eggs with nips and scratch tickets for the adults! Not my idea, but very popular with the grownups.

Good luck with the race next week, Mike, I will be more than happy to cover for you. Can't wait to hear how it went! And good luck to the rest of you guys as well. Rock on!

Gain of 2.4 lb this week. And, yes I agree that routine is a key to success. This was a very out of routine week for me as I had just duty on Monday, dinner out Thursday, then a day off Friday, and spent yesterday on the road. I was probably less diligent than i needed to be this week about staying on track by carrying protein bars, getting water in rather than coffee, carbs, etc. Regardless it's back to routine tomorrow.

Not thrilled with the uptick in the scale. I have been following my 3 daily drives: 64 oz Water, Mindful Eating, and Exercise. Still, as I reflect I feel really good about my water intake and exercise. Got to the gym 3 times this week and ran outsided 2 times (Wednesday 4 miles, Friday 4.5 Miles). Going to sign up for a 5K either in April or May.

The mindful eating has been a struggle. Usually during the day I do great. Good Breakfast, solid lunch, and nice dinner. However, after dinner have been doing a little grazing thinking that it is OK as I am exercising consistently. Need to REFOCUS my efforts in the eating department.

It starts today as there will be more food for Easter Dinner than you can shake a stick at!!!

Happy Easter, Passover and whatever festival you recognize this weekend.

I am happy the scale moved again, but this time - unlike others here - I really changed my routine. The Times-Colonist 10k is coming up in four weeks so I decided that I would start walking the actual route instead of where I usually go. That increases my walks by about 4k and makes for another 30 minutes or so of exercise. I think it might have helped 'kick start' my system because I have flat lined for the last few weeks. But now I have dropped another two pounds and I am feeling pretty good.

This was a rough week for me because last monday a good friend of ours passed away. He was 85 and just a wonderful gentleman to chat with and have for advice. I will miss him. Then the hammer fell on the budget where I work and I had to lay off two of my staff. So it really wasn't an up week.

On the good side, baseball has started. I love the feeling of optimism that comes with a new baseball season. I cheer for the Mariners so the optimism is limited. But it is still there.

I am having difficulty resisting my carb cravings. I also find that I need to eat more protein to keep me going for a four hour stretch. This makes me feel weird because I know if I eat more I may gain the weight back. An irrational mind is terrible thing to work with.

I had my FOUR year surgiversary yesterday!!  How did I celebrate?  By moving most everything from my house to the garage and font porch so that the floor coverings could be removed.  Porcelain tile will go down first then carpet in the two bedrooms.  One of which we are occupying till the last minute since once the tile is down we can sleep on a mattress on the floor and not have to vacate the house entirely.

Fours ago I never thought I'd reach goal much less blow through it and stay under it.  I like the 170 range I'm hanging in.  See my Dr. next week and will get the "official" weight when I go.  It would be very self satisfying if his scales show the 170 too.  Medium shirts and 34-36 pants beat the crap out of XXL and 50-52's.  Wearing a smaller sized duty rig and being able to comfortably, as possible because by its nature it is not comfortable, wear body armor is incredible.  Still walk two miles as often as I can but need to get to back to pumping some iron again.  I'll admit that I'd like to have some plastics but I "deflated" well and can live with the situation. 

If you're pre op keep the faith.  If you are early out you are in it to win it so hang on!!  And to the "old farts" who may lurk but don't post any more - post every now and then so we'll know what is going on with you too!!
