Need some help
Ok, I need some advise. I feel like I have hit bottom.
My surgery was 7 weeks ago, and up until about a week ago, I felt like I was doing pretty good. I am following my surgeons plan, eating when I am supposed to, taking my vitamins, and everything. But last week I started getting upset stomach after eating, and about 3 days ago I could not keep anything down. I called my sugeons office, and they thought that I was dehydrated. So I had my second day of IV therapy today, and have to go back tomorrow for my final one. I had soup today as my only meal and after about an hour after eating it, I got what felt like a big knot in my stomach.
I lost it emotionally, had a long break down. I don't know if this is a normal feeling that everyone seems to go through or if something deeper is wrong.

Sounds like a stricture; not uncommon about this far out of surgery, but easily fixed. An outpatient procedure called EDG where they put a balloon into your esophagus and expand the stoma, then you're good to go. It might take one try, maybe more than one try, but needs to be done asap or you'll get dehydrated.
The surgeon can do this quickly.

Hi,
I can only say only YOU know how you are feeling. I do not think what you are going through is "normal". I would strongly advise you to contact the hospital and surgeon to go in for a consult to see what is going on. Only you can advocate for yourself, so PLEASE contact them ASAP.
Thoughts and Prayers are with you...
Best,
Bill

I can attest to the emotional rollercoaster. There is some goofy stuff going on inside you. I have had all kinds of emotional ups and downs just understand you are going through significant changes and it does wear on you. Every additional challenge makes it seem insurmmountable and just too much to handle. As far as eating follow up with your doctor and be conscious of every bite you take. It is all to easy to get lazy and just take bites that are too big or eat to fast. Cant really say what you do or dont have but I have found that it is very easy to want to avoid your doc because you dont want any bad news, or procedures etc. Your medical team is a resource and if you are not feeling yourself talk to them ask for help.
It could be a stricture...About 5% of RNYer get them...Ask your doctor. Also it is true about the hormone dump. In your fat cells is estrogen...Yes, estrogen. You are going through male PMS...Estrogen is getting released. Men usually never have to face this issue...Who loses this much weight so fast! It does get better, hang in there. Brian PS If it is a stricture, do not freak out if you have to go back a second time for a treatment...Some people go back a second or third time...So just hang in there. IT DOES GET BETTER!! I'll trade you...I had to go home with a catheter and urine bag for 10 days...Sounds like fun?? Hang tough...
You are not alone brother. Hope that whatever was bothering you physically is taken care of soon. As for the emotions it is all part of this crazy ride you are on. We have all been through it. I was very impatient with folks for a while but it has all leveled out now and is fine. Keep your chin up and keep your eyes on the prize. It is most definitely worth the ups and downs. Good Luck!
immediate life after WLS surgery isn't so much as a journey as a roller coaster ride. I think any guy on this board that says they didn't go through some sort of break down after surgery is either lieing or not normal.
Your body has a build up of excess hormones in your fat stores and as you burn the fat they are dumped into your system which is one cause of the extreme emotions you may experience. The second cause is that Life after WLS is a total ***** at first, there are so many things you worry about and have to track and change. Fluid goals, Protein goals am I eating the right foods is it time to take a vite on and on and on. Yeah it is a total ***** but the good news is the emotional part does get better.
As for the knot and stuff in your gut well that is all medical stuff that the docs can help with be it a stricture an ulcer or just not feeling right.
Stay the course and follow your docs and you will do fine.
