pills crusher
I am still on high blood pressure pills which was expected as I am 3 days post op. My question is how do you guys take your pills. I have to take six and crush them and they taste horribly bitter. have mixed them in a small drinking cup with milk or crystal light which seems to cut the taste the most but would like some suggestions if anyone has any.
I don't think there is a great way but I had some success with first coating the spoon (soup size) with sugar free chocolate syrup, adding the crushed powder, then another thin coat of chocolate syrup. Still bad but better than diesel fuel. You may also want to try some no sugar added apple sauce.
I was pretty happy when my surgeon let me have small capsules at the two week post op. If that is the case for you, you might find a "compounding pharmacy" willing to crush your pills and put them in small capsules for a fee. Not cheap, but a lot of value added in my opinion.
Regards,
Roger

Why are you crushing them? I bought myself a cheap pill splitter at the drug store and would cut them up into quarters and had absolutely no problems at all swallowing them and digesting them. They did that for me in the hospital immediately following surgery and I just carried the procedure home with me. Might be an alternative to the nasty taste of the pills.
I had forgotten about pudding. I used to make sure that I had all the meds in one or at most two bites of whatever I was going to put it in so I only had one or two bites to choke down. I actually tried one of my meds in a liquid form (there was only one that was available that way). It was absolutely the worst decision I ever made. I though I was going to end up in the ER - I guess it made me dump or something. You may ask the doctor if any of your meds are availabe in capsule form - some of the caps contain small coated pieces rather than powder. They are almost tasteless that way. You'll probably want to check the composition of the capsule before changing just to be sure. The doc can check the PDR if he is unsure of what is in the cap. I had managed to force these memories from my mind. Just thinking about it makes me gag.

I am with Michael, my doctor too said to crush the pills but they tasted so terrible that after a couple of day I said screw it and started cutting mine into fours and swallowing each piece slowly. Never had a problem. Thankfully as time goes by and you heal more you will eventually be able to swallow the pills whole. However for now I would definitely advise cutting the pills in fours. Just my opinion.
