OK - So I said I was going to do it and I am!

I have a non-refundable plane ticket to Atlanta on Sept. 2nd, 2012.  I have a reservation for one night at the Amicalola State Park Lodge on Sept. 3rd.  I am planning to step off from there on the Approach Trail to the summit of Springer Mountain and the Appalachian Trail on Sept. 4th. for a 30 day walk in the woods.

I'm going to go as far as I can -- I have to be back here in Boston by October 12th at the latest.

Would anyone here care to join me?

You will lose the rest of your excess weight, I promise!

Hiking from Georgia to Massachusetts in 30 days would be an accomplishment, but I think it is way beyond my ability!

I plan to walk as far as I can and then take the nearest bus/taxi to the nearest airport and fly home.

That is awesome!  In my younger(and lighter) years, I would take my son hiking on the trail in VA.  I hope to get back there once I loose some more weight.

Hey Joe, if you have a chance to read this, there is a woman on the Exercise and Fitness Forum who is asking about the Appalachian Trail.  Thought you could give some input...Brian

Good luck Joe.  That is amazing.  Keep us posted as it gets closer.  Not sure if you will be able to get connected along the way but would love to hear about that journey.  I'm definitely with you in spirit.
