Of course you can do the weigh in before surgery.

Great job on getting on the 10lb weight loss.  You are exactly right, you have to re-learn everything and stick with the new habits you are forming to be successfull long term.

As to the 8lb loss in just a few days, I read a great post by "Cabin111" a couple of posts down that will help explain why you dropped so much so fast.  It is a repost from DX.  Here is the link:

http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/men/4495345/Weight-Stall/

Go down to his post and read it.  It explains about glycogen and the associated water that is stored with it and how you drop 10lbs quickly by using it up.  Also helps explain why your weightloss slows or goes up after a while, due to your body storing up glycogen and water again.

Best of luck!!!

Hey Crijguy,  I knew this drastic change would result in a quick loss the first week, i now have to stay the course! I read the repost when it was posted, the board lost a good one when DX left, we are fortunate his posts stayed! Thank you for your input!

You are pretty much eating what I am and I'm 6 months out of surgery. The only difference may be I tend to eat the protein first because I fill up so fast there may not be room for anything else. I avoid refined carbs -no white food- I can eat it but it is a trigger for me to fill up on it and nothing else. I will have very small amounts-pasta and rice- what I can fit on one forkfull-  potatoes -in chowder or one bite - maybe one or 2 french fries --can't remember the last time I ate a whole piece of white bread- and am at the point where I don't miss it. All I have to do is look at myself in the mirror to remind me why I don't need that type of food anymore.  Just Sayin'

Hey thanks Tim,  I am avoiding "the white stuff" too and it is HARD! I will get used to it though. My wife has already commented that she sees a difference...  She and my daughter are getting used to not having junk food in the house and are getting on the bandwagon. Maybe all of us will benefit from this surgery.

Ditto to what Tim said!!  Protein first and then maybe a bite or two of the starches...  That's it and I really don't miss them!

37 lbs Total Weight Loss

Hi, guys.

I'm joining the weigh-in for the first time.  I had my surgery a little over a week ago (1/19).  Recovery seems to be going well.  One complaint I have is some nerve pain in my thigh.  I can't stand or walk for more than about 25min at a time before it becomes very painful.  The doctor said it can happen with surgery and should get better over time.  Did any of you have something similar?  How long did it last?

Everyone's very excited here in Indy about the Superbowl.  I don't think my leg will allow me to get downtown to check everything out, but I hear it is something.  Of course,  I must root for the Giants.  It's really tough for a Colts fan to cheer for Brady and the Patriots.

Welcome and congratulations on the surgery.

I didn't have pain in my thigh, but what I do still struggle with from time to time is sciatica that I have never had before.  Turns out, due to research on my part, consulting with my PCP, and talking to some folks on here (Michael specifically), I have learned how to minimize it and keep going.

I totally get how much it can effect you, but keep moving, keep walking, and keep losing.  I wouldn't trade my sciatica for the 146 lbs I have lost... EVER...  You can do it!

5 pounds this week, which is a big loss for a week these days. Still feeling really good and working my routine. I am looking forward to next week, not so much the game itself, but the challenge of my first Super Bowl party post surgery. I will be bringing my own food and drinks to make sure I have what I need. Plus I will see a lot of buddies that haven't seen since last Super Bowl.

Hello All,

Well, this is my 2nd time posting to the Sunday Morning Weigh In. Here are the numbers:

High:  346
Surgery:   326
Today:  197
Weekly Loss:  0

No movement in the scale, but am ok with that as I am over a year post op. Most people and the staff at Tufts have said most of the weight loss will occur in the first 9-12 months. Still, a total loss of 149 pounds is pretty awesome!!

Eating is going well. Still track my food on fitday.com. I average around 1300-1500 calories a day. Getting in lots of water, but alot of coffee as well!

In terms of exercise, great week I go to the YMCA here in town and love it. Have been doing the c25k running program and am just today did Day 1 of Week 4. I am absolutely AMAZED I can run for 5 minute intervals without fainting!!!! Also, a Jr. Basketball League I am the Director for started yesterday. 500 kids, 40 coaches, good times overall!!

Excited about the Super Bowl as I am a HUGE Pats fan. I am enjoying this run of excellence as I was a fan when they were just horrible!!! So the last 10 years have been wonderful.

Hope you all have a happy and healthy week!!

Only 2 pounds this week, I think I have stalled until I get moving with exercise.  I went back to work full time at 2 weeks and am totally ragged out at the end of the day but I know I have to suck it up and go walking.  No weights until after my 2/16 surgeon visit but I have no excuse for not moving more now.  Onward and downward!
