Well, it was a great week to be a Pats fan. Superbowl baby!! Saw Brady on the cover of SI. Hope that isn't a jinx!! I'm really thinking he's got something to prove this time so it should be an amazing game. I just want it to be here already!!
Anyway, I didn't run as much this past week as I have for previous weeks. Tried to pu**** a bit on Tuesday and ended up with a little knee pain. This really frightened me as I hadn't had any pain running yet and didn't want to sidetrack any progress I've made so far. I took Wednesday off and did an easy run on Thursday which seem to go much better. I don't have any pain now so hopefully it was just too much too soon and I didn't do much, if any, damage. After I get motivated I'm headed to the gym today for an easy 4 mile run. I'll know better after that.
As far as eating its been going a little better. I have been making a concerted effort to not graze when I get home from work which has been my downfall. As long as the chips and cookies aren't around or in sight I'm usually pretty good. I have introduced more fruit into my diet over the past week. Believe it or not I hadn't had an apple since surgery. Not sure what I was thinking but it was the best darn apple I'd ever had!! Back to the basics for the diet. I have been also trying real hard to get my 64 oz of water and alternating between coffees at work (which I think I've transferred my food addiction to). I'll work on one thing at a time. Just got to make sure that the coffee is not loaded with cream!
Sports for my girls are now in full swing. We've got softball skills clinic one night a week. I don't really do much there except help soft toss some balls during the hitting portion. I also bring my oldest daughter to pitching clinic one night a week as well. Here is where I get my work out. The girls all line up and continually pitch to all of the parents doing various drills for an entire hour. So I am catching and throwing for an hour straight. After the first week I was complaining to my wife that my throwing arm was killing me and that I thought I had somehow reinjured an old broken bone. I didn't connect the fact that I was throwing softballs for an hour the night before to the pain until the second week. Duh!! Felt much better after the third week so I don't think it was an injury, just old unused bones and muscles! I also got wrangled into coaching basketball as well for my two daughters teams. Wasn't planning on it but the coach needed help and I was there. Its all good and I could use a little more exercise on the weekends!! Never coached basketball before but have always played recreationally. Its nice to be able to jump on the court and do this now. Last season I was sitting in my folding chair on the sideline, out of breath from walking in from the parking lot. What a difference a year has made and it's not over yet.
I've got some of the guys from work that I walk with who are planning their spring hikes in New Hampshire and am seriously thinking about trying to do one of them. Funny how in the past I would just listen to their mountain top hiking adventures, wanting to do something like that but just resolved to the fact that I would never be able to do that again. Well, ain't life funny, just when you are mentally down and out a new door opens and you are able to walk right through it to better things!
Thanks to WLS I am literally reborn and nothing is impossible any more. And of course, a great big THANKS to my wife and kids for their support and putting up with my sometimes crazy mood swings.
Well, I've babbled enough for this week. I hope everyone has a great "SuperBowl" Week and Go Pats!

I'm feeling great. Tomorrow will be a month since surgery, about 30 lbs down since surgery date. Almost 90 since i started the whole process. I go in on the 7Th and I should be cleared to Really start exercising. Not having really any problems getting food and liquids down.

Coaching the young ones sounds like fun. They don't cause problems - its the parents!! Never seen a video of a young player smacking the refs. It was Mama or Daddy.
Despite tweaking of my schedule at work managing to get some more walking in. Unusually mild winter for us so that working in my favor also.
As to the game next Sunday - I'm only watching for the commercials.
Never, and I mean NEVER, trust a fart!!

One more step down the ladder this week. I did average excercise and calorie intake and I guess my body decided to use this week to catch up, as I consider this a pretty good drop in one week. The weather has been favorable for a couple of beach walks this week with the pooch. And I look forward to coming home from work and grabbing my gym bag and heading off to the gym, sometimes with my 15 year old daughter in tow, for a nice workout no matter how badly work has kicked my ass.
I had my 6 month check up at Tufts this week with labs and got high marks from my surgeon for sticking with the program. My only issue is sometimes it's hard to get all the liquids in during work and between meals. Mike, I hear ya with the coffee. I crave at least one Dunkin iced daily, turbo shot with just a little milk.I have been going through a couple of boxes of sugar free ice popsicles a week. 15 calories each, crunchy and sweet and frozen hydration. Overall, a good snack to keep your mouth busy, I guess.
That's it for this week- good luck to the rest of you guys and will be looking forward to a Patriot's Super Bowl victory after next week's weigh in!!

I' actually happy to see the two pound gain this week. Over the past two weeks, it seems that I had been losing again. Not much, down from the 180-185 range to the 175-180 range, but I still have some concerns about my overall health and losing more, I was afraid, could signal an issue.
We still have not figured out the anemia and blood loss from a few weeks ago. It appears that whatever it was, is at least for now, over. I am holding my HGB count and have had no further blood in the stool. Although the doctor has done more tests, all are normal. I'm not sure where we go next with this. While I am doing fine now, I obviously have something that has cause the anemia twice. And, until we figure it out, I am concerned it will happen again ... And believe me, it wasn't fun.
Fortunately, I feel good and have decent energy, although not at peak. And, while I know this sounds foolish, I had planned to do plastics for my lower body next month (ok, it's a guy-vanity thing -- I was looking forward to a flatter stomach and sucking the fat from my groin which would, as the plastics guy said "restore my normal physique." what he meant was that my peepee would look bigger.) Anyway, with the other issues, that has to wait I guess.
Oh, and Mike, I totally understand the coffee thing. I'm drinking a tremendous amount of coffee. At least I switched to decaf most of the time so I could count the fluids. And, by the way, Starbucks make a skinny decaf mocha (extra hot, please) that is exceptional -- and I do not do any artificial sweeteners of any kind whatsoever.
Have a great week guys.

Another good week, so I guess I've either beat a stall or worked my way around increased sodium/water retention. My guess is the later, but it seemed like I was in the 340's FOREVER!
Good bye 40's, don't get too comfortable 30's cause you're out of here soon.
Exercise is good and can already feel the testosterone after 2 shots. The walks are stronger even with longer distances (3.5+ miles in faster than 3mph), and the resistance training is harder. Starting to feel the muscles re-forming under the flab again.
You may have to rest the cartilage for a couple of weeks if the pain persists Mike.
Maybe throw some glucosamine in if you're not already.
The challenge is to work on other things and not let your exercise mojo wane.
swimming maybe? it takes gravity out of the picture.
whatever you do be smart and keep the long-term picture in mind.
keep up the good work losers.

WOO HOO!!! Down this week. After the stall last week, the scale is moving again! I am not .2 lbs away from the 100lb loss since surgery. (Was actually down .2 yesterday, but Sunday is the official weigh in day and today I am back up .2)
Overall a great week. Was able to get alot of walking in at work this week. Was able to get everything done that I needed to, and several things I didn't have to. Replaced the garbage disposal last sunday in my kitchen, and yesterday I replaced the dishwasher. Both times required me to contort myself under the sink and was able to do that both times without problem.
Overall, great life!!! Think I may head out to the Houston Car Show today and look at a bunch of things I can't afford.

Best Weight Loss week yet. After weeks of losing a pound or two per week I finally made a big jump. 6.5 pounds down in one week. I feel great. A lot of it is because I have been really really busy. I had two hockey games to work at and staff who were sick so I had to teach their classes. Teaching can be really active and moving about the way I do it.
It is amazing just how good I have been feeling. I really like this. So basically I am very happy, staying away from the dreaded carbs and looking for more ways to get in protein.
Have an excellent week gentlemen and enjoy the game next week. I am not sure who to cheer for but it should be a fun game to watch.

Another 2 lbs!! I really wanted to hit the big 100, but it just wasn't in the cards. Im OK with that though, I am very happy with my progression so far. Eating is getting better for me as I am beginning to be able to eat a few additional foods without throwing up.
Had a wonderful weekend snowmobiling and staying up at a friend's cabin. It snowed about 16" the past week. My boys and I shoveled the deck and I didn't even get short of breath!!! That was awesome. Also very cool to see how flexible and nimble I am when I ride my snowmobile. It's time for a new pair of snow bibs as my kids laugh at me and say they could fit in the bibs with me!! It was a great week of farts.

Can I do the weigh in if I haven't had my surgery yet? I had a few questions and maybe you guys can guide me.
High weight: 296
Weight at initial consult 1-19-2012: 269
Todays weight: 261
The surgeon told me to lose 10 lbs before she would schedule surgery, I jumped into a pre-op diet I found on her website last wed. which consists of protien shakes, no-cal fluids and greens/ chicken for dinner only. I followed this during the week and on the weekend I have done protien (eggs, lean meat, veggies) for breakfast, fruit and fluids during the day and the greens/ chicken for dinner. I looked at total calories and am running under 1000 each day, this explains the 8 lbs lost in 4 days... Is this the wrong approach? I miss my coffee and carbs! I like the weight loss and by the 6th when I see the NUT she will think the scale is broken... Or am I right in thinking that there is no time like the present to relearn my eating habits?
