testosterone

Have any of you guys replaced "low-T"? and did it effect your weight any?

I ask because I got my first shot of man-juice on Saturday and have gained 3 pounds rather than the 2 or 3 that I would have expected to lose by Thursday.

I haven't changed my diet any, getting about 1100 kcal and 120 gm of protein. Carbs about 30 a day with under 10 sugars. Drinking a lot of water (I don't measure, but titrate to clear urine by 9 AM and keep it there all day).

I've even upped the walking to 50 minutes a day at 3 mph.
I added resistance training a couple of weeks ago and am still felling the lactic acid in the muscles ( 3-4 days a week, upper body for now).

So question esp for you vets, ....What the heck?

can the testosterone do this?

Did not have the shots...But here are a few ideas in no special order.  Muscle weighs more than fat.  Since you've had the shot it should make your muscles develop faster.  What you may want to do is get out the tape measure...In WLS it can be more accurate.  You'll find you have been losing inches while gaining muscles.  Another thing to keep in mind is that as the fat cells shrink (example if you go into ketosis), they will release hormones including testosterone and estrogen!!  Many stable men, once rapid weightloss occurs, find themselves falling apart for no apparent reason...It's the estrogen being released.

Got the below off the internet...

Water retention is called Edema, which is the abnormal build up of fluid in the body. Edema is commonly seen in the feet and ankles. Because of the effect of gravity, swelling is particularly noticeable in these locations.

But swelling due to water retention involves the enlargement of organs, skin, or other body structures. It is caused by excessive build up of fluid in the tissues. This build up can lead to a rapid increase in weight over a short period of time (days to weeks). Swelling can occur throughout the body (generalized) or it may be limited to a specific part of the body (localized).

Certain medications may also cause water retention:

  • Hormones, like estrogen (in birth control pills or hormone replacement therapy) and testosterone
  • A group of blood pressure lowering drugs
  • Steroids
  • Antidepressants

Yeah, I think its water retention.
I know that testosterone can make you hold a bit of sodium which means tha****er will be held in.
I don't have any tibial (leg) edema.

I don't think that there was enough time to build muscle, but the broken down muscles hold water too.

I'm gonna guess that it's that and not change anything for now.

I guess we'll see...................
stay tuned

the easy way to check if your retaining water is press the tip of your index finger into your shin bone and press for a few seconds.when you remove it the size of the dimple should be deep. and your skin should respond fast.the slower it takes for the dimple to dis-aper is how much water you are holding . and that can be quite a lot...but it sounds like mussel gain but I'm no DR . don't change anything right now as it sounds like your doing the right stuff . good luck

I've been on the patch throughout my pre and post surgery. I don't really notice any weight related changes.

Hi: docd
I have not had WLS yet, so I don't know if that makes a difference, but I get the Man-Juice shot every two weeks and I have not gained any weight. Man juiced for over one year, so far all systems are go. I also take 50,000 unt of vitamin "D" every Monday.
Low "T" no more.

Hey 88
Were you watching the weight real close when you started? Might you have not known if you just gained a couple?

Coming from left field...Off the subject.  I ventured over to the Lap Band Forum...Saw you were getting overwhelmed and blasted with question.  Don't let it get to you and don't feel you need to respond.  We've had doctors, PAs and surgeon on these boards over the years.  Most stop posting after a few week...The questions go on and on!!  Disregard them (if necessary) for your sanity.  But the Lab Band Forum has great insight into things like cm fills and band slippage.  Again glad you're posting here...But do it on your terms...
