Sunday Morning Weigh In

Back in March I started spending more time on the road. I, too, was really worried about how to handle eating.

I asked the hotel for a small fridge (they usually have them available at  no cost - typically for diabetic visitors). Haven't had a problem getting one. I then stocked up on EAS protein shakes (available most the local drug store or market). I also picked up cartons of the deli salads such as cole slaw, tuna salad, chicken salad. Found some individual packs of carrot sticks, string cheese, and other stuff. Bought a small bottle of dry roasted nuts for any snacks.

During l work lunches, I'd nibble on a salad.

Most important thing while traveling is to make sure you get all your liquids in. My docs want at least 64 oz of water per day. Be sure to stay hydrated since flying seems to "dry" me out.

This last week was my first `road trip`since my surgery. Leaving the security of my soups and soft food I was out to try real food. The goal of our trip was to celebrate my wife`s birthday so we did a tour of the casinos of the Pacific NorthWest. Staying in casinos usually works out pretty good for us; we can get great room deals on really nice places. Usually as part of the deal there is a buffet tossed into the mix.

I found that eating at buffets was no challenge at all. I was able to select a lot of really good healthy food and there were some SF things on the table as well. One of the things I miss most since my surgery are salads. Lettuce just refuses to go down. But I got into cottage cheese and other protein items on the menu.
I work with a hockey team and we are served pre-game buffets as part of the job. So years ago, with the help of my nutritionist I made up some buffet rules. Don`t use the big serving plates, use the little salad plates. No stacking. Must be able to see plate between the portions. With my RNY surgery I have a new rule - one trip to the table is enough. This one isn`t an option. My stomach definately does not like me to over fill it and if I try I break out into a chorus of burps. The first time I ate just a bit too much I burped for two hours without a break. My g-d that hurt.
Exercise was real good. Staying a nice hotels they have good resort pools so I was swimming and doing pool exercises every day, I was even able to use the gyms a few times during the trip.
But the most exercise I got was shopping. This was my wife`s birthday gift so we trucked through many many stores looking for the exact right purse. Thank god iPhones have games on them.
So I am happy I am down three more pounds. And glad to be home again. Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Today is the Grey Cup (Canada`s Superbowl football event) so it is a big day for us CFL football fans. I celebrated by picking up a sweatshirt for the cup. For the first time in a long time it only had one X in its size. I am so used to buying XXXL and XXL that XL to me is something special.

Way to go on the loss of those X's in your shirt size.  Nice FART.  Enjoy the Grey Cup today.  I don't really follow Canadian Football (except a bit back when one of our Massachusett's favorites, Doug Flutie, was up there).  I'll be cheering on my NE Pats today.  Have a Great Week!

Survived Thanksgiving and even lost 6 pounds to boot. I had 3oz of turkey some green beans and a taste of mashed potatoes and dressing. I even made pumpkin protein custard from a recipe found on Bariatric Foodie that tasted just like pumpkin pie.

I hit a mini milestone by going over the 100 pounds lost mark. I am also in need of some jeans as the smallest I still had from my "skinny" days are 46" waist and are starting to get really loose. I think I will hit up some thrift stores this week to see what I can get on the cheap. Luckily I have some 44" dress pants that will work for work a bit still.

I am now 2 months out from surgery and i feel awesome.

1.8 LBS LOST THIS WEEK
65.6 lbs Lost since surgery
114.6: Total Weight Loss

So, I survived my post WLS Thanksgiving as well.  Did try everything I wanted, just did so in moderation.  I also had half a cupcake and a small sliver of cake.  (Hence the only 1.8 loss) I had planned for those, and budgeted for the extra carbs and sugar earlier in the week.  Also planned on not losing this week as my first time to "indulge" since surgery.  Very happy this morning when I saw a loss.

Now I am off to clean out some more pants out of the closet that are too big and then probably go buy a couple more pair (for work) to keep me going.

Have a great week.  Thanks for the updates.  Very, very, good week for all of us it looks like!!!!

Weight is still holding within my range of 180-185 lbs.  I’ve celebrated Thanksgiving twice this week – once with friends on Thursday and then yesterday when the family arrived in town (a last minute surprise visit).

The dinner with friends was very interesting since there were no potatoes, yams, or stuffing. Although I known these friends for 30+ years, we haven’t seen each other often since we lived 1,500 miles apart. I recently relocated to this area and it’s wonderful having health-conscious friends so close. They prepared a very flavorful turkey and the rest of us (6 couples) brought our assigned side dishes. Lots of wonderful salads, vegetables and very healthy stuff.  And, the surprising thing is that these friends have no clue I’ve had weight loss surgery. This is the way they normally eat and I fit right in.

The dinner with family included turducken (a turkey stuffed with a duck which is stuffed with a chicken). This will probably become my new Thanksgiving tradition. This meal was very traditional with the potatoes, yams, dressing, and all the other “stuff" associated with a holiday dinner. While I did very small servings of most foods, I didn’t overeat or have any issues. While not as healthy as the first dinner, I was still able to eat comfortably and within my personal parameters. Even recorded my in-take on MyFitnessPal and it was only slightly over my normal daily meals.

Bill, ditto on what's been said.  A few ideas in no special order: If you can handle beef (always try new stuff at home and not on the road) things like beef jerky, Wendy's Chili with cheese, plain nuts, a pop top can of chicken vegetable soup, rye crackers, chicken lunchen meat.  Bon Apetit...

This is my first Sunday weigh-in and i was in the mountains away from the web, so couldn't chime in until this AM.
I'm great with down 4 over the Thanksgiving weekend.

Weird thing though, I'm down over 60 pounds, and not a single person even mentioned it. I mean, I went from a tight 5X to my old 3X shirts fitting loose, and not a word.

Now my family are all fat, so maybe they feel guilty. I didn't tell them about the surgery. (my wife and kids of course.)
Or perhaps because my son rightfully got all the attention because he got accepted to Army Rangers training. I couldn't be prouder or more scared at the same time! Go 75th!

I know I'm new to this and still on the honeymoon, but found it easy to eat right (skipping the pecan pie was toughest!)

Any congrats to all you losers out there!

So my Thxgiving went well, I ate a TINY amount of food and then hopped on a train on Friday to NYC for the weekend with my wife and her cousins.

My schedule was all screwed up, only got in my protein shakes a couple of times and vitamins were down too.  In fact I probably did not hit my liquid goal the whole weekend.

My weight loss went into turbo mode after having a week before of 3 pounds (all at the end of the week), and I am currently losing about a pound a day at the moment

I walked a BUNCH in NYC, so that may have contributed as well.

It was nice to FIT into the train seat much easier, we had taken a trip the year before where we were a little uncomfortable, but this time 12 hours in a train each way and I did not feel stuffed into the seat.

Pant sizes are flying down at the moment, I have gone from 48s a month or so ago, to 46s feeling great and now they are getting kinda loose!

Almost 85 pounds down now!!  Back to the gym tomorrow morning, hoping to keep the weight loss rollin!
