492.4: Tufts Medical Center Program Start 9/20/10
462.5: Lap RNY Surgery day 2/7/11

Well I survived my first Thanksgiving after WLS. And it really wasn't that awful!! I started the day off with going to the High School football game with my wife and kids. It was a beautiful day here in the Northeast so it made it that much nicer. Visited with my in-laws and then was off to see my family in Plymouth. All in all a great day. I helped out a bit in the kitchen carving the turkey and mashing up some vegetables. I didn't pick too much before the meal and mostly snacked on cheese and veggies with a handful of nuts. For the meal, I took about 4 oz of white meat turkey and then took a spoonful of each of the sides (veggies) and topped them with a little gravy. I mindfully ate throughout and was the last to finish my meal. I did not feel deprived at all and had a bit of everything that I wanted without a problem. I even had a small sliver of pecan pie later on in the afternoon. And I think it was the best piece of pie I've had in years. Not a lot, but just enough. When eaten slowly its all anyone really needs!! And the best part of it all is that I lost a pound this week. I lost weight during Thanksgiving week!! How is that possible? I know how but we'll keeping that as our little secret!!
I finished week 8 of the C25K training and ran for 28 minutes on Monday, Wednesday & Friday. My final week is this coming week and I will be running for the full 30 minutes each day and I am already mapping out my training for post C25K to start improving my times. It is crazy to me but I am really enjoying the running. I think it was what I needed for my exercise routine. Good stuff!
I spent Friday and Saturday outside building a deck for my 10'x10' shed which I purchased last year but was sitting on the grass (read mud now). I was able to level all the footings, cut all the wood and nail together the frame and screw down the decking without a problem. Amazing how easy it was to do all of this. I have put off a lot of my bigger yard projects because I physically couldn't do them. Well, not any more. This is just the beginning and I'm amazed at what I can do now at this lower weight.
During this week of thanks. I have a lot to be thankful for. My family, friends, job, etc... But what I am most thankful for is that I've found that I have a whole new perspective on life now. I know it signs cliche but I really, really do. Where I've spent most of my adult life sitting on the sidelines and only participating as much as physically possible, now I am just jumping right in and doing anything and everything that I want. In that past, I really avoided any situation where I would be embarrassed by my size or physical limitations. When I was doing it, it just seemed like living, but it really wasn't. Now I want to do everything and try anything. I was watching the kids playing football on Thanksgiving and was thinking that I could get out there and show them a thing or two!! I AM LIVING NOW!! We are planning our Disney vacation next year (avoided in the past because I couldn't fit on an airplane or any of the rides). I want to learn how to dive. I recently took a gun safety course and am applying for my license so that I can once again pursue sport shooting. I want to hike again. The sky is literally the limit. I see the world with my eyes wide open now and am living every minute. Life is Good!
Hope everyone has a Great Week and Happy Cyber Monday!!

Stats:
Highest weight: 315
Start weight: 1/2011 305
Tufts start weight May 2011: 285
Surgery weight-7/5/2011: 265
Weight last Sunday Weigh-in: 204
Current Weight: 200
Goal Weight: 170ish
Lbs. lost this week :4
Total loss from start weight: 105 LBS.!!
Mike, I could have written you first paragraph verbatim with exception of a 2 mile walk with the pooch prior to dinner. I kind of purposely split for a little while to let the rest of the guests show up before I made an entrance, as most of them hadn't seen me since this time last year. The oohs and aahs and OMGs were dispensed with efficiently and only had to describe my recent journey in detail a couple of times throughout the afternoon.
I have reached my mini-goal this weekend and that was to hit the 200 lb. mark on the scale. The feeling is hard to describe, I feel like standing on a cliff somewhere and screaming it. I had my annual physical a week ago and I am done with the Crestor for cholesterol and the BP meds are permantly cut in half for now. It's all good. No other issues to report. See ya next week.

Had fun at Baby Nurse's family Thanksgiving. Metered out my portions and still had plenty of the platter shaped paper plate showing. Even managed to down a piece of SF pecan pie that her daughter had baked for me.
Must confess my sins though found the granddaughter's Halloween candy bucket. Two mini Snickers bars and I was out like a light for most of the Cowboys game.
Ventured out some on Black Friday and survived it without having to wear my body armor. BN found Acer tablet she was after at a Best Buy. Hearing on news about several dumb asses, all inclusive terminology, using pepper spray to thin out the crowds so they can get to the desired items. Idiots.

Never, and I mean NEVER, trust a fart!!
Good stuff. I am amazed that someone would use pepper spray to save a buck. Is it really worth it? Merry F'n Christmas. Unbelievable!! Anyway, good to hear that you got the Acer tablet. That was the only thing that we are looking for this year for the girls and we haven't been able to get one at a decent price that has a camera (My girls requirement!!).

Hope everyone had a great holiday. I did well, although I show a gain this week. My Thanksgiving eating was good and controlled. We went out rather than cooking for just the two of us - kids were all with their respective other parents. LOL. Modern family, huh? While I was served normal portions in the restaurant, I was able to just eat small amounts of each item. I did give in to a piece of sweet potato pie (they had run out of pumpkin -- amazing, huh?).
I'm not too concerned aout the gain this week since I have been continuing to lose below my goal. In fact the last several weeks, I have lost about 5 lbs, so this may just be my body normalizing. I will be keeping a close eye to be certain it's not the beginning of a bad trend. My diet has not changed substantially except that I am drinking more coffee and less water. I need to work on that this week.
Hopefully going to put up the outside Christmas decorations today if the weather holds. Another of those things I would have dreaded 200+ pounds ago. Mike, you are certainly correct about living life fuller. That may be the biggest motivator of all for many of us. For me, I needed to finally realize that I was fooling myself into believing I was living happily at the higher weight, when I was actually just coping with a bad situation. Glad the lightbulb finally came on for me!

Good morning Friends!
I too feel a great accomplishement making it thru my first Thanksgiving without any problems. To lose two pounds this past week feels wonderful. I kinda missed eating Turkey, but all this is really worth it. I sampled some mashed potatoes and some stuffing. They were delicious and my wife pulled off a wonderful dinner for all our family. It was great to have a house full of people and all the cousins running around playing all day.
I have my first business trip, since WLS, this week and I am trying to figure out how to manage it properly. I think I'm just gonna pack my blender with me so I can make some shakes. I really love those protein shakes in the morning and they seem to start my day out right. If anyone has any suggestions for me on proper eating while traveling, please let me know!!
Have a great week and congratulations to all my WLS brothers who made it thru this wonderful Holiday without a scratch!!

I've found that for me it's important to keep on a normal schedule of meals. I cannot allow myself to get over hungry or I will over do. Protein bars and maybe some nuts will help me. Always remember that places like McDonalds, Starbucks, etc have yogurt or fresh fruit also. Even places like target in a pinch has yogurt.
