ed
Hi: StillKristen
Thank you, young lady for your reply. One question, where are all the guys? We guys with diabetes know all about Ed. It an important subject that I am trying to get answers to. It may be embarrassing to some of us, but in age of open-minds we need to talk about these issues. I know many men would like someone to look into this subject. If any doctors have the answer I would love to hear from you too. What if the wives or girlfriends post a note, ladies help us to open-up. If vsg can help with this problem, sign me-up.

Hi: Docd AZ.
I know that after gastric surgery your diabetes goes away, your blood pressure returns to normal. So my question is does your ED condition also improve or goes away and your back to normal again? No more little blue pills, pumps, creams or whatever devices we use to have sex. If this is the case your local surgeons will be very busy. Thank you for any information you can pass on, I know it will help many of us. Hope your doing well after your surgery.

There are so many variables, but lets look at them a bit.
first an anatomy lesson:
An erection is a function of blood pressure in the reservoirs along the side of the penis (sorry, but there is no bone in a boner or wood in a woodie )
When it isn't being used we have normal blood flowing in and blood flowing out.
When the mind says "Hey, that excites me!" a series of nerves closes the outlet valve and blood goes in and gets trapped there.
If you have ED from long standing diabetes, or high blood pressure, then you probably have had damage to the outlet valves of the penis. That, unfortunately, may be permanent. just thank God you live in the decade that there is Viagra.
If you have recent ED it may be from medications and that can be reversible when the meds go away.
On top of all that is the mind. When we are super obese, we often harbor negative feelings about ourselves. We feel ugly or somehow unworthy of the affections of our partner, so we have issues with sending the signals to the outlet valve.
That can definitely change, and probably will with each pound lost.
finally one last thing.
I'm assuming the crowd here is mostly in the 40-60 range.
next time you need blood work done, ask your doctor to tack on a serum testosterone level. (you may have to cop to fatigue or ed to get it covered, but who doesn't have fatigue sometimes? )
I see a lot of guys in my family practice that are experiencing "low T" and fixing that not only helps them in the sack, but helps build muscle, helps mental focus, and gives a guy a little extra gas in the tank at the end of the day.
It never hurts to ask anyway.
Hope that helps. I'm open to other questions.
My surgery went well, I'm down about sixty pounds from my all time high, and even conned Mrs docd that the post-op instruction sheet said sex was cool after 1 week (not that stupid four weeks!!) of course she had had a few glasses of wine at a concert, so she was ready to be conned!
A guy has to take the opportunities as they come!
Hi: Docd AZ
Thank you for your open and honest answers to my many questions. I know this is a very personal and private issue, but I'm sure that it will help many of us men. I am not embarrassed to talk about Ed, diabetes or Hypertension, because if you live long enough you may get some of these conditions. I'm 63 years young and still enjoy having s-e-x. My wife is 18 years younger than me, so now you know why I have to keep-up with this young lady. There's a joke in there some where ! Presently I took shots for Low-T every two weeks, it has helped with a:m erections. Levitra is the medication that has helped the most. If and when I have vsg surgery I would like to be off all medications. Now I weight in at 255 lbs with a BMI of 40.3, extremely obese. Fear and mis-information is what keeps many of us from addressing our conditions. After joining OH I have learned so much, that things are getting easier to understand about my medical condition.
Have you had any major complications with your surgery? Can you eat and drink OK? What about vitamins and other pills, can you swallow them OK?
Regards, stay healthy and fit.

walking seems easier after losing about 50 pounds (go figure) and the goodwill clothes pile is starting to grow.
I was on metformin and glyburide before the surgery and haven't taken a pill since that day. my highest sugar has been 93.
Is that amazing or what?
keep up the good work 88
