5k in 5 days
Maybe a little aggressive for me but if you feel up to it then what the heck!! Go for it. Even if you run, then walk and then run all is good. I am in week 3 of the C25K training and have all I can do to run 3 minute sprints at 4.5 mph but am feeling stronger each day!! I personally want to be able to run a 5K on the treadmill before hitting the pavement but if you are feeling good then try but don't hurt yourself!! Good luck and I'll be with you in spirit!
Doing a race of any distance isn't as much about your speed as it is your endurance. I can get the Hamster Wheel up to 8mph but can't hold that pace for anything farther than .25 miles.
Being that it is a 5K and cooler weather has started to set in I would say go for it but listen to your body as you do it. If your body is telling you that you can't run then walk or run slower. Your first 5K isn't about finishing in a set time but rather just finishing.
Your first 5K is all about victories you will get 3 major victories by doing this:
Victory number 1 is you Sign-up, yes as cheesy as it sounds this is a victory. Why? well 2 years ago would you have signed up for much less spend money to let you have the privalage of doing their 5K for a Tshirt, bottle of water and a banana? The simple step of committing to do it shows how far you have come.
Victory Number 2 is you cross the starting line. This is the point when you go ALL-IN and actually do it. Our previous lives were filled with good intentions so we attempted and many we never did or would have. Again I doubt 2 years ago you would have crossed the start line heck maybe in 6 months ago you may not have. The victory here is over coming the doubts that the Fat Boy still puts in your head. If you are anything like me this fat boy will never go away and pushes me to go farther, go faster and push myself to a new level.
Victory number 3? YOU FINISH! this is the greatest victory you will probably ever feel. You will wear a perm-a-grin for days if not weeks (I bet Jeff still has his). Just think the sense of accomplishment you will have in completing something that probably weeks or months ago may have seemed impossible. By crossing the finish line no matter what the time you are a winner you are setting an example for those around you and your friends and family will be thrilled in what you have accomplished. You will at this point be Victorious of the Fat Boy.
I encourage everyone to do at least 1 5K and fini**** regardless of the time to experience the victories I described above.
Don't give in to the Fat boy voice I am in constant battl with the voice and it is this that has shown me what I am capable of. As for the family cheering you on well my mom and family live on the opposite side of the country and are glued to FB when they know I have a race regardless of the distance.
So I say go for it!
