My 1st 5K

Well guys saturday morning i ran my 1st 5k. I was so nervous all week. I still had the same attitude that i had when i was 520 lbs "What if i dont finish".. But thx to some amazing people in my life i couldnt let my old attitude change my new life. I drank plenty of fluid the day before & got up early and did what i had to do so i didnt have to stop on the way lol. A friend of mine decided to do it with me but i was afraid i would still be doing it by myself because he is more athletic then me. So when we got into the group i started getting all jittery, thinking man what if i come in last. Then all of a sudden the lady says GO!!!!! I started out running for quite a while and people were blowing by me but it really didnt bother me. So after a while i would stop running and then walk fast then run and i just kept repeating that process. Then i went by my house and my daughter was standing out there watching me and she looked so nervous for me but shes yelling come on daddy you can do it. From that moment on there was no looking back & i new i was gonna finish this race.then i was about 4 tenths of a mile away from the turn around point and there was my buddy just passing me. I said to myself hey wait a minute he isnt that far ahead of me so i kept up the pace. Then on the way back my thighs decided that they wanted to be on fire. But then i could hear my friend Paul Corley's quote in my head "FAT BOYS QUIT" and that just added fuel to my fire. At the end i had this woman that kept getting close to me and she didnt know it but she helped me just as much as my friends cause everytime i would hear her footsteps i would start running again. Then it happened, i turned the corner to the finish line and I could everyone yelling "COME ON JEFF" then my buddy brought me a water and i poured it on my head and he said come on FINISH STRONG. and as i started to run that last stretch my daughter met me and finished the race with me. That was the best feeling in the world. I had many accomplishments on this day:

- Ran my 1st 5k
-Never Looked behind me to see who was gonna pass me
- Never stopped and said i cant do this
- got to finish the race with my daughter
-Set my 1st P.R. 41.34 5k &13.25 pace

I just have to say that i would never have done this in my previous life and with the help of my friends Mike,Amy,Paul & my family you guys made it so much easier. THANK YOU

OH YEAH MY THIGHS STILL ARE ON FIRE!!!!!!!! HAHA

Wow Jeff!

Reading your narrative was like watching a movie!

I'm 2 weeks pre-op and already down 30 pounds with a long way to go.

You just gave me a goal that I hadn't had yet.

A 5K by this time next year is in the cross hairs.

Thanks for sharing your story, it lit my fire!
