Well, I am in a fantastic mood today and feel like I'm back on track. The scale is finally moving in the correct direction and I think that I exercised more than I ever have during the past week and feel great about it. I feel like Mike, Mike the Exercise Machine For you younger folks this is an old Gong Show reference (www.youtube.com/watch). Anyway, I began my training for a 5K and did the first week of the c25k program on the treadmill. That was three half hour running/walking workouts at the gym. I went two other days and did 90 minutes of weight training on the circuit and did another day with 30 minutes on the elliptical. I also walked for 30 minutes during lunch each day Monday through Friday. All I can say is WOW!! I feel energized and more motivated than in a long time.
My eating and food was pretty good this week. I had a few minor slipups (succumbed to one pumpkin iced coffee) but all in all I did very good and planned ahead when I had to go out. So, I'm not going to dwell on food as that is going good.
Had a few FARTs to mention this week. The first was a realization that I no longer needed to tilt the steering wheel on either of my vehicles all the way to the top position to sit in the seat and could actually tilt it down without hitting my stomach. In fact there was a ton of space between me and the steering wheel. Crazy, that I can actually now see the dashboard and discovered that there was a dial that actually tells you how fast you are going and other interesting things!! LMAO
The second FART that I had was that I could now actually go on a Planet Fitness treadmill without it slipping or skipping or jumping. I used to think that the treadmills were just broken or the belts were loose or whatever but the reality was that at well over 400 pounds those things were just not able to handle my weight bouncing on them. Damn you Physics!! Now I can walk and run without missing a beat. What a feeling! This was the big reason that I had abandoned the treadmill early on and started using the elliptical trainer. What a feeling.
Another thing that happened this week was that this formerly 506.5 pound person actually ran!! I ran! Let me repeat in case you missed it I RAN!! Never, ever, ever in my life did I think that I would be able to run again. I don't remember when in my adult life that I was ever able to run (or wanted to). I honestly think that I was probably around 16 years old when I last even attempted to run. That is close to 30 years my friends... What a Feeling. I am jumping for joy inside now if you couldn't tell! This surgery has truly been life changing!
Well, I've taken up enough of your time this week. I need to head to the gym for a quick jaunt on the elliptical and then get some stuff done around the house before I head over to Gillette Stadium to see the Patriots take on the Jets. This promises to be the game of the year and a friend of my mine hooked me up with one of his season tickets. I can't wait and the best part is that I have no pre-game anxiety because I know that I can fit in the seat!! Look for me in the end zone (opposite end of the lighthouse). I'll be the guy that looks like a lot thinner version of me!
Hope everyone has a Great week!!

This has been a crazy week for me. Started Monday with colonoscopy and endoscopy, then Wednesday with the 4-hour barium swallow upper GI series, and Thursday finding out I have cysts on my kidneys (likely not an issue and unrelated to my current medical issue of anemia and blood in stool).
All of the tests were negative, thank goodness. Even the bowel issue that showed on the cat scan proved to be a false positive when investigated. I'm happy the tests show nothing, but in a way I'd almost rather find something so that I knew what was causing the anemia and bleeding. Doctors say to wait and watch for additional symptoms, and they will see me again at the beginning of November. I'm not certain I like that approach, but I'm living with it for now.
I have committed to get back to the gym this week after about 3 weeks away. I hope my energy level is back up, but I cannot use this as an excuse to become more sedentary again.
With all the medical hoopla, I was able to maintain. I was actually down 2 lbs earlier this week probably due to the fasting and lack of fluids before and during the tests. I picked up 3 lbs for a 1 lb gain this week, but that is what maintenance is all about, right?
Have a great week, guys.

It was a very interesting week. I got a lot of walking in and felt pretty good. I had one day at lunch though that I threw up. I figured out where I went wrong though. I rushed my lunch while eating and working at the same time. Now that is not the best way to be mindfully eating. Lesson learned, time to move on. I was really hoping I would get to the two hundreds by today, but I am super happy about that magic number "50".
Mike, I also set the steering wheel down a notch in my truck. That was a great feeling!! I am so glad you hit the mark this week. You are doing awesome--Keep it up.
Well, gotta head in to Church. My 11 year old is playing bass on the worship team this morning. I love hearing him play. Have a wonderful week guys. May we all feel healthy this week and energized.

Big time fart!! 37 pounds in 28 days. I was similar. I was averaging about 1 1/2 pounds a day. Men take off the weight faster than women (we have a larger muscle structure). One week I lost 10 pounds. It felt great but it can also drain you of energy. Just a reminder to all to know the signs of dehydration...# 1 reason for reentering the hospital post WLS...

Well this was the annual hunting trip to PA with the boys. last year was a full 460 pound trudging crap through the woods feeling like crap adventure. This year was a full 100+ pounds less of me to hike around and OMG was it so much more enjoyable. I was out longer hunting, went further into the forest and didn't sweat myself to death. I ate really well at the lodge at night and was afraid that I was gonna be a flat lose for the week, but all that walking and stalking really helped. Didn't get a chance to weigh in last Sunday because we were on the road at 4AM, but 10 Pounds in the last 2 weeks and most of it for sure was this week. I am really looking forward to next year when I am light enough for a tree stand and can get out of the hatted ground blind. I can not explaine how much this surgery has changed not only my physical appearance, but my menal one as well. I have started to regain the feelings I had in the military that I am truely worth something and can accomplish anything I desire. I am very close to my half way point and that is the next in many milestones to come. Thank you all for the inspirational stories and motivation It means a lot

What a difference a day makes. I feel awesome. The pain in my butt is all but gone and I am slowly getting my energy back. I started back to work on Tuesday, one week out from surgery because my company allowed a single week off. No worries though as I am a web app developer i was able to work from home and did well. I got up and walked around the house every hour and took a good half hour rest away from the computer every 2 or 3 hours. It was good to get back into the routine.
My drinking and protein intake has been good and I have been taking advantage of the unseasonably warn weather here in upstate NY by taking 30-40 minutes walks in the evenings. I even mowed the lawn today and was no worse for the wear. Like Mike I will be starting the C25K once I get permission from my surgeon to start more strenuous exercise. I am doing my very best to not over do it at this point which has been tough given how good I feel. I just need to keep reminding myself that I had major surgery less than 2 weeks ago.
