Iron Infusions?
Switch_me, I think I fit the category you're asking about. A little info about me: I'm male, 42, about 8 years post-op, had a Distal RNY. Over about the last year I've had a hard time keeping my iron up. I'm one of those stoic types who doesn't go to the doctor often enough, and figures if he's feeling fine there's nothing to worry about. Well that complacency has gotten me in trouble a couple of times. Anyhow I did have to have an iron infusion about 5 months ago. Then just yesterday I had to have an infusion of 2 pints of blood, packed hemoglobin. That was done sort of on an emergency basis as I had gotten busy with other things in my life and hadn't been following up with regular labs. Well I did have labs done last thursday, and my numbers were so low they scheduled me for the infusion right away. That's kind of why I'm responding to your post. I was doing some searching online about iron deficiency and found this thread, so I thought I'd reply.
FWIW, the distal gastric bypass, like I have, is more susceptible to malabsorptive problems such as iron deficiency, than the duodenal switch.
