Bad stomach issues ...

I've been feeling very well up to the last two weeks, so this is really beginning to bug me. After eating, I am getting what are sometimes severe stomach cramps. Last night particularly, I was actually doubled over in pain moaning and actually thought I would pass out. I began to sweat (very unusual for me since the weight loss). I was a bit nauseous, and made myself vomit, which seemed to help. Or, at least the cramps ended coincidentally at that time.

This has happened, although not so severely and not leading to vomiting, several times in the last two weeks. I'm not eating anything different ... Even the same brands of yogurt, etc. My portions are pretty similar to what they have been, perhaps a bit larger, but generally not too much so.

I'm confused. Any ideas before I hit the PCP (or the emergency room) if I can't control it? By the way, I had just a yogurt for breakfast and that seems to be ok. I'm going to try to severely limit portions for a day or so to see if it has any effect.

I suggest contacting your PCP.  I know in the past I have contacted mine and once he did advise me to go to the ER.  However, they didn't want to do the tests he wanted done.  And, I was pissed because of the relative ( compared to the co-pay at the PCP's ) cost of copay at the hosp.  The next time I had a different problem, I was able to call him during his normal hours and he gave me info by phone.

Late in the day update: Perhaps the smaller portions are helping. As I mentioned earlier, I had a cup of yogurt for breakfast. At lunch, I had some tomato basil soup and just recently a serving of fresh cherries (I have been eating the hell out of fruit everything from berries to mango to melons). Anyway, I have done pretty well today. Maybe I have been just overdoing without realizing it.

I dared to go out to the Main Forum to inquire about strictures.  I've never had one, but I've seen them mentioned often and I know that they casue pain in the abdomin.  I posted a few hours ago on Sat evening and got a reply.  Although the woman *****plied was patient in explaining it, I think you'd be better served by looking at her response.  You may be able to see when I posted it by linking to my Latest Posts.  By Sun morning it will probably be on the 2nd or 3rd page of the Main Forum.  I think the woman *****sponded is a nurse.

Thanks. I'll take a look. But I've had strictures twice and this pain is deeper in the gut. More like I would expect with severe gas or constipation.

Ken, I had a stomach bacteria ulcer once before my VSG. The symptoms were similar and would make me double over in pain. I would find some relief after drinking sprite or 7 up and burping and flair up again after 1 hour of eating. I took antibiatics for four days and have not had any problems since.

You might have gal stones.. and be having a gal bladder attack.  You symptoms sound very similar to mine.. I had a two week period at Easter where I was afraid to eat much.. because I'd get these excruciating pains..  My pain was not typical of gal stones which are usually felt  higher than your stomach (often mistaken for a heart attack).. I had an ultra sound done and it revealed several gal stones.. This is VERY typical of rapid weight loss..

The surgeon I saw is not totally convinced it's gal stones, because I felt the pain in my gut.. so he's ordered a cat scan. to see that there are any  blockages or tightening of the intestines.  I go for the test next week.. Meantime I've had no pain since Easter.. and was thinking.. I'd just forget about it.. but about a week ago I ate a cob of corn, and youzer.. excruciating pain,, sweating,, nasea (I'd eaten lots of corn)..  This time it was an isolated attack.. (and higher up.. more typical of gal bladder attack)

I'm anxious to see if the cat scan shows that my innards are normal. If that is the case.. then the surgeon will remove my gal bladder and hopefully it will be the end of this pain.. This is the one and only complication I've had from my RNY surgery 042910

John, thanks for the suggestion. My gall bladder was removed last July after the RNY. That was the beginning of the streak of great health. I has a tough first few months between the stricture and the gall bladder, but after the gall bladder came out, it was easy sailing until now. Good luck with yours. By the way the gall bladder surgery was truly an easy one, nothing to fear at all.

Ditto on all the ideas that have been said.  What about a twisted bowel.  For some it twist back to normal on it own.  For others they need minor surgery...

Soul the pain be intermittant...bad for a few days and then ok for a few...with bowl obstruction? I guess that could also cause a "full feeling" as well, huh?
