Got my date (Tentatively)

I am scheduled for 9/27/11. Only hurdle is work giving me a hard time about the dat and wanting me to pu**** out a few months. I am fighting it as there reason is that it doesn't jive with the project schedules. My main response is the schedules are always fluid and if I put it off what's to stop them from asking me to pu**** out again and again because the schedule has changed. My immediate supervisor is on my side and is helping me try to convince upper management and HR. So hopefully I can have a resolution soon, but I am moving forward as if I am a go for the 27th.

Go for it...Especially if you qualify for FMLA.  You will be so much more beneficial to the company with the lost weight.  I would push forward especially if you have highly tech skills.  If not, rethink and weight the good and the bad.  Brian

I do have tech skills. I am a front-end web application designer and that is part of their concern. I am the front-end development team as in I have a unique skill set for our company.

I qualify for FMLA and I am getting my ducks in a row in case I need to play that card, but would prefer not to unless it was a last resort kind of thing as I love working here. Even though I have the right to take the time I foresee it causing tension down the road.

Some people can come back early if it's a desk job...1-3 weeks.  For most 3 weeks in the minimum.  Another thought is to offer to come back in 3 weeks (if no complications) and do 1/2 days.  If you can handle 1/2 days move on to more...

First, congratulations on getting this far!  I just had my surgery on Tuesday (3 days ago).  Luckily my work was very helpful with time off.  However, given your skillset, would it help to offer to "telecommute" during your recovery as you feel able?

I am starting to get bored being at home all day, and wish I was at work, but don't want to rush going back.

Just a thought!

Telecommuting is an option and I have offered to start doing work as soon as I feel up to it. They still have concerns that I won't feel up to it.I have also pledged to work extra hours before the surgery to make sure all work that I can do up to that point, often my work depends on having pieces from the back-end developers.

I did have a good conversation with my manager today and he thinks that they are coming around to it. So I'm moving forward and preparing myself for the 27th.

Congrats on getting a surgery date! I hope that you are able to work things out with your employer so that you can start your journey sooner than later. I'm going under the knife in three days, can't wait. Again, good luck!

Just a quick update. Today my company gave final sign-off for me to take the days off for surgery. Glad that this is behind me.
