CATHETER IN MY WHAT??
you won't even know it's there- the nurses will drain it for you-it comes out in about 2 seconds and you will be medicated to the point where you probably won't care- you'll have to pass urine on your own before you're discharged. the only thing you might feel are the razor tipped barbs on the end that keep it from sliding out. sorry-I just couldn't help myself- that last one was a bad joke- honestly, it's a non-issue
They put it in when you are asleep. It does not hurt but feels strange. Worst part is can not put on shorts / pants with catheter in place. The easiest way for me to get out of bed was towards the door and I always felt like I was flashing the hallway. Worst part was getting it out. I had a nursing student, she had her instructor and another student there when she took it out.
Good luck
Good luck
My surgeon's procedure was to remove it before the patient woke up. As it turned out, I was unable to pee and had to have one inserted in my hospital room to drain my bladder. It was removed immediately afterward. I was medicated enough with the morphine, I honestly don't remember it being at all painful. I think the issue for guys and a catheter is all in our heads ... The big head and not the little head (now I have to apologize for a poor joke).

Apparently, my experience was atypical. The catheter went in while I was under anesthesia, and the first thing I noticed when I woke up was that my johnson hurt like hell!
When I was up to it (no pun intended) I took a look see and noticed that the cath was bloody. It hurt like hell every time I moved. They taped the tube to my inner thigh to prevent it from moving too much but it still hurt a lot.
When they remove it, they use a syringe to deflate the bubble that holds it in. For some reason, that hurt like hell also.
My johnson was pretty sore for a few days, especially when I peed.
I am now almost one week post-op and everything is back to normal.
No one had any explanation for why I had so much pain. The doctors and nurses seemed very surprised.
I am not trying to scare anyone; just sharing what I went through.

Oldtimer here...and I mean really oldtimer!! I had mine taken out after RNY...Couldn't pee on my own and had to have it put back in...go home with the catheter for about 10 days. I was so glad when I had it taken out...It really restricts where and what you can do. When I went in the cath lab for my heart, I need another catheter put in...I was able to pee on my own in a few hours. Also last year after bladder stone surgery I had to go home with the thing cause I couldn't pee on my own. They took it out after a week. Was always having to drain the urine bag in the toilet. I'm just one of those people who is effected by the anesthesia. I would say 90-95% of the guys have no problem and it gets taken out in 2-3 seconds and it is over and done with...Pee on your own and you are good to go. No big deal with the nurses and nursing students looking at your weenie...They have to do this 10-20 times a day.
