A reminder to read food labels...
I'm shopping at the local dollar store (it's called 99 Cent Only). So I grab some cole slaw (it says homestyle Reser's Fine Foods). Thinking no big deal...mostly cabbage and carrots...Wrong!! Ingredients; Cabbage, sugar, mayonnaise (there is even high fructose corn syrup in the mayo!!), salad dressing (more HFCS)...Then comes the carrots. 150 calories in a 1/2 cup serving.
Just a reminder to read your labels and don't do a lot of assuming...

I agree about reading labels. Maybe people should find out what's in some of the better tasting French fries (even if you limit the amt ). Most people crave McD's French fries and don't realize they're made with sugar.
Another thing to watch is portion size. My wife has become keen about this since she has to limit her carb intake due to a diabetic diet. The shock that a serving of ice cream is 1/2 cup and that there are 4 servings in a pint. I used to treat a pint as my fictional serving. That's really not that bad since prior to WLS, I usually had 1/2 gallon of ice cream daily.

Oh yes, the labels are very eye opening. When I go to parties I take my protein and maybe a spoonful or so of a couple of sides that I think look really good and concentrate on my protein and then maybe nibble a taste of each of the sides. That way I don't get too much of those unknown hidden ingredients! Thanks for posting the reminder!
