About 40 years ago I had rheumatic fever resulting in an arthritic condition. As a result, my dentist has insisted that I take an antibiotic prior to dental work (including cleanings) as a preventive measure.
A few years ago (before WLS surgery) I had a allergic reation to the Penicillin that the dentist prescribed. The dentist then put me on Clindamycin which has not been a problem for me in the past several years.
Today I went for my semi-annual dental cleaning and took the Clindamycin as directed. A couple hours later (after leaving the dentist office) I noticed an irritating itch which was getting worse. I then noticed a quickly spreading rash on my chest, abdoman, arms, legs, etc.
Seems I've now developed an allergy to Clindamycin. The dentist and my PCP both told me to take benadryl which seemed to halt the itching and the rash is now going away (albeit very slowly).
I also called my WLS doc to see if the dosage was too strong for me after RNY surgery. They said dosage would not have to be adjusted after WLS. They said the allergic reaction was NOT the result of WLS.
Has anyone else experienced allergic reations after WLS? Do you have to adust your medication doses after RNY surgery?
Thanks goodness this was not a severe reaction where my tongue started swelling. It was just a lot of itching and a rash. But, I'd appreciate knowing if other guys developed allergies after RNY.

I've had no experience with this, but it is an interesting thought. So much changes after surgery, it would seem conceivable that an allergy could develop. Do physicians still believe that allergies run on a cycle, coming and going at various stages of your life? I know when I was a kid, the doctor said that about every 7 years allergies could cycle in and out, but that sounds almost like "snake oil" treatment today.

I hadn't heard about the allergy cycle but that's something to consider. My sister suddenly developed an allergy to shell fish and ham. Now, about 8-9 years later, she's no longer allergic to those foods.
Maybe my allergies are totally not related to WLS. But, it wouldn't surprise me that my body is still adjusting to a major change.
