Just saw my doc for my 10-month follow-up. I've reached my goal weight but noticed the sags on the abdoman and pubic area. He told me that it was excess skin with a type of fat that's not going away.
Apparently this fat, which is a couple inches thick, is detached from the muscle and is adhered to the skin. The doctor said no matter how much more weight I drop it will never go away without surgery.
Most plastic surgeons won't consider skin reduction surgery until about 12-18 months after reaching goal weight. Have talked to others in my support group that had the surgery. It wasn't covered by insurance and was about $15K. They said it was very painful and recovery was slow.
At my age I don't think I can justify the cost of the surgery and don't want the pain. It's not that obvious when I wearing my clothes and don't plan to flaunt myself on the beach. So, I'm just going to live with it.

Agree with Rich. I had my belly, pubic area taken care of this past april. Surgery was covered by my Insurance company other than copays. My primary had documented rashes and wrote a letter of support. Plastic Surgeon sent pictures and a letter. I got approved within a couple of weeks, he had me preparted to write an appeal, which I did not need to do. I was not all that uncomfortable and was only on pain meds for 3 days post op.
But, it will make Mr. Happy look so much more .. well yanno .. like more of what you got
In fact, I was considering plastics in that area even before I had WLS ..

Frank talk about the DS / "All I ever wanted to be was thin, like that Rolling Stones dude ... "
HW/461 LW/251 GW/189 CW/274 (yep, a DS semi-failure - it happens :-( )
And WHAT would those be, exactly? I know the old "diabetes folds infections" excuse used to work, but what do you do now that WLS has taken care of the diabetes? I can just see the ins. cos. saying, "oh now you don't need to worry about that complication coming up, since you're not diabetic anymore" ..

Doc took pictures on rashes, recurrent rashes with OTC , pain related to "shaking" with exercise. If you get a referral to a plastic surgeon that specializes in post WLS patients, he will know what information is necessary for insurance to cover the surgery.
Each insurance company has different requirements for the approval of surgery, just like WLS. Insurance will not cover lower body lifts, arm, leg or chest work. just abdominal.
