Just a quick post, I have been lurking a couple weeks now I guess!

Attended the seminar in June, my first Dr appt is on Monday (8/1) and thinking late September for a surgery date.  (RNY)

Got the approval from the Psych and will be seeing the nutritionist on 8/1 as well.

I will eventually figure out and post the various statistics, approx 346.x at the moment, 5'9" and the Psych mentioned 210lbs as a reasonable goal?

My dad went from 270 to 155, (WWatchers) but lost a good bit of muscle over the years, he is in late 60s though so that would be more expected.

My "lean weight" is approx 165 according to my electric scale gadget (330lbs it shows approx 50% fat, therefore 165)

Hoping to do everything I can to maintain my muscle mass, I think I posted about that in the Exercise forum.  I am a member of Planet Fitness and their 30 minute circuit, 10 machines, 10 cardio/steps, is a pretty decent "full body" workout.

My work is sitting at a desk all day, I come home and work more on a laptop so exercise will be critical since it is not part of what I do for a living!

I guess enough for now, just wanted to say howdy, will be around!!

Welcome!!  A lot of hurry up and wait pre op, during, and post op.  The whole OH site gives you great info and fast (they may not be right...but if you want a question answered at 2:06am)...This is your site.  You get a lot more guy support here...Things like; "That's tuff man...sorry to hear about that".  Or a quick kick in the butt...punch in the shoulder type of thing.  Not like the Main Forum where you'll hear..."You poor thing...Butterfly kisses to you...group hug!!"
Ask away on the questions...and get ready for the ride of your life.

I agree with most of what Cabin111 says except that, if you want an answer at 2:06 am, ask it on the Main Forum.  It's the busiest Forum.  Ask it here too but you probably won't get an answer until the next day.  Due to sleep difficulties, I'm on the PC at crazy hours but my brain isn't always clear at those hours.  Good luck and I hope to continue hearing from you.

Welcome and best of luck as you embark on this journey of a lifetime.  You won't be sorry!!   We do a Sunday Morning Weigh In if you haven't seen it yet as a way for all of us to check in and keep ourselves accountable.  No judgements, just the numbers and FARTs (NSVs in other forums)!!  Good Luck.

 Thx folks!!

So far I have cut out sodas, the NUT mentioned they would not work after the RNY so I went ahead and got that one out of the way.

I have been marching in place for a few weeks until the 8/1 Dr visit, and as bad as it sounds, eating a few things that it may be a LONG time before I can have again (if ever!)

But, excited, looking fwd to the new me!

Funny, I used to be a diet soda addict but haven't had one since a week before surgery (2/7/11) and really don't miss 'em. I know prefer a Diet Cranberry Drink or something like that.

Don't beat yourself up over the bad things just be careful and don't overdo it. The week before my surgery I went and did one of those big burger challenges in under an hour. Big mistake as I ended yacking it up because it was so greasy and I had been eating so good for months... Oh well, I got it out of my system and honestly don't miss it now.

You won't be sorry as I now have more energy than ever and actually look forward to going to the gym. A crazy concept for me...

RNY on 11/02/10 with
Know exactly what you mean about looking forward to the gym, Michael...  My wife had to make me agree that I would not go to the gym on Sat/Sun because that eats into family time, which we have precious little of because of my job...  But when she's out of town (like this weekend) I can't wait to get there!  It's weird because even the thought of going up to the 2nd story at our house used to give me cold sweats.  Now I pop up there on the slightest excuse, and don't mind at all...

I used to drink close to 2 liters of Diet Pepsi every day.  Since it was free at work, I never really paid any attention to it - it was there and I liked it, so I just drank it down.  My surgeon had me on a strict diet for a month before the RNY surgery, and one of the things on his list was no sodas -- and no caffeine - which waas a lot tougher!  No morning coffee?  Yikes!!

Since then, I've attempted to drink a soda only once - on a business trip in an all-day meeting, they ran out of water in the room, and I'm so used to sipping water all day long that I get really "dry" if I don't have anything.  So I tried to drink a Diet Pepsi.  I just couldn't do it...  Not only was the carbonation getting to me, but it tasted so sweet that I had to go pour it out after a few sips.

Met with the Doctor and Nutritionist on Monday, all signs are GO at this point.

I am on the 3 week diet to prove to them that I can follow basic instructions and diet restrictions.  Essentially her plan at this point is single digit Fat and Sugar on items that I am eating.  So under 10grams for a serving.

I have tracked 100% of what I am eating since Monday, calories have ranged from 1470 to 1230 for M/T/Wed.  Under the recommended amounts of fat and carbs each day, but OVER on the protein.

I have been in 120g range per day on my protein, and I asked if there was an issue with going over.  Her response was no, "not needed" but not an issue.

My goal is to maintain close to that based on the lean weight formulas (.5 to .8 of lean weight)  My lean weight is approx 165 according to my scale when I was just under 330.

I have hit the gym on Tues/Thur mornings so far, doing the 30 minute circuit (10 machines, 10 cardio stations) and then a 1/2 mile on Tuesday and 1 mile today on the treadmill.

I FEEL great!  I have always been strong and enjoyed lifting weights more than anything and hated cardio.  BUT, I found the secret for me is to bring my Kindle.  I love reading and so when I am on the treadmill I can read / don't get bored or watch the clock!!

So, that is my update.. my official starting weight will be 348.x on the home scale, 352-355 on the ones at the doctors office.

SOrry for being late to the party, but Welcome!

This is a great group of guys here and as said before we aren't about the all is good hug hug approach.  We tend to tell it like it is and have a good time in the process, some people have had issues with this in the past though .

Good to hear you are getting a jump on the exercise piece.  As anyone here will tell you that is what I am about.  This can be a total life changer if you let it be, I know I have and I love it!

Enjoy the roller coaster!
