I'm the latest newbie here. Just wanted to intro myself. I'm 10 days away from WLS and I'm hoping to loose betweeb140-160lbs. I'm 5'11 with a BMI of 50.

I'm married and the father of two beautiful daughters. I'm doing this as much for them as I am myself.

Being that I'm new arounf here can somebody help me with the lingo? For example what does F.A.R.T. mean?

Welcome to the site. And good luck with your surgery.  On the Men's Board, a FART is what might be called a Victory on other boards. It is an accomplishment or a win of some sort. FART is an acronym, although I don't know the meaning. (Fantastic ....something or another)

Terrific

Used striclty in here and not out on the other boards.  We discourage females from posting here.  A female OH staffer, sig others posting about how their man did during surgery or on occasion a female with a question is tolerated but we don't tolerate post about time of the month, tits swelling etc.  Now how your junk appearing larger or how much some of your turds weigh - now you're talking!

Never, and I mean NEVER, trust a fart!!

So, now that you know what a F.A.R.T is you should know that you can talk frankly on this forum.  We may not always agree with you but we will support you in your efforts to lose weight, exercise, and follow a good post-op routine.  I encourage newbies to be active here because they strengthen the experience for all of us.  It's easy to forget the early days when you are a few years post-op.  It's good for vets and other newbies to hear what's going on with you.  I always think that a person who is just a few weeks post-op may be able to help someone just about to have WLS or who has just become a post-op.  There's plenty for the other men to discuss also.

I don't think the use of the term FART discourages the women.  Let's get real.  But, we occasionally let women who post here know that they are not welcome.  We can't stop them but we discourage them from posting.  They have all the other forums on OH.  Part of the reason for having the Men's Forum is that men used to get lambasted when we posted about male problems on the other boards.  If someone wrote about a hernia, for instance, he'd get responses saying it's nothing like childbirth.  Duh!  We know that but we just want sympathy and support.  If you want to get a kick in the pants, just say that in your post.  I personally like a kinder form of encouragement but the forum accomodates all Men.

Welcome to the Men's forum and hopefully you'll be posting your own FARTs on here soon enough.  I have two beautiful daughters as well (7 & 9) so can relate to what you said.  Good luck as you begin your journey and get ready for the ride of your life!!  Great stuff ahead!!

Welcome aboard. I am 3 weeks out today and I did this surgery for me and me alone. I'm married with three step daughters and if I was doing this for them I would have had a mainline of nacho cheese installed . This is my gift to myself. I want to get the old military uniform back on one more time. The surgery will go great for you. Follow the docs orders and eating regime and you'll be great.
