I couldn't be happier with my RNY 6 months out.  I lost 36 pounds during months 5&6 do you guys think this is pretty "normal"?

This is a difficult question to answer because our individual weight loss rates are different.  Part of this is based on our differing starting weights.  I like you, started out as super morbidly obese.  Initial weight loss was tremendous but it will slow down.  Part of that has to do with the simple math of calories needed to maintain your weight.  You needed a lot more calories to maintain a sustained weight of 550 as opposed to you current weight.

Don't worry about the weight loss per month.  You'll do better by NOT comparing yourself to other men.  As long as you are continuing to lose on a monthly basis, you will be doing fine.  I started out about 575 and my surgeon put my goal weight right where I am, i.e. between 335 and 350.  I accepted that until I started reading about other men who had similar start weights who were able to get to lower goal weights.  My 2 biggest problems are difficulty getting any exercise and a terrible food addiction to junk food.  If you can avoid junk food, do so because just having a taste of it may be like stepping into quicksand.  You may just want a taste of something and find that you are not able to satisfy the cravings that ensue once you do indulge.  Look at BigAl2029's profile.  He also has a Men's Group--Note that women cannot even access his group-- through OH.  I keep forgetting my password so I continue to post here.  But, many men have moved from the Men's Forum over to BigAl's group.  And, there are some, including BigAl who post on his group and update their profiles or post on OH forums.

Overall, you are doing great and should continue to lose weight for about 18mos pos op.

Hey Dave,  Are you feeling better than you have in years?  Are your clothes sizes smaller than they have been in a long time?  Do you have more energy than you can remember?  Well if you answered Yes to any or all of those then I would say that Yes, that is very normal and you are doing perfectly.  Keep up the good work and don't obsess about the numbers...  Just enjoy the ride!!
