Six Month Update

Hello everyone!

I haven't posted on here in a while, but when OH sent me an e-mail reminding that it had been 6 months since my surgery, I decided that I wanted to update everyone on my progress.

I will start with the weight, because I know that is why all the pre-ops are reading this post :). My highest weight was 310lbs, and my pre-op weight was 290lbs.  As of last week (I try not to weigh myself too often) I was 180lbs. I am a 23 year old man who stands at 5"7'. That gives me a total weight loss (since my high weight) of 130lbs, and it feels great!

Everything has improved since my operation. I went through a rough patch when I had a stricture during my second month post-op, but that was really the only complication I have had. I can eat anything, I don't, but I can. I don't dump from sugars or fats, but I still watch them carefully and try to make the best food choices no matter the situation. I walk about an hour to an hour and a half a day, and go to the gym twice a week to lift weights. I normally have an egg with some meat for breakfast, or a protein bar, or sometimes two cheese strings and a peperrete. For lunch I tend to pick up a lunch, normally a small salad with as much protein as I can find on it (meat, nuts, seeds, cheese, egg ect). For dinner I tend to have a piece of chicken breast or ground meat with a little bit of veggies and mashed potatoes or a pair of triskets.

This surgery has been a blessing for me and my family. As you may, or may not know, my mother also had RNY just a month after my surgery and is doing great! The surgery has taught me so much about myself and about why I eat. It is truly an amazing weight loss tool, and if you can look past the bumpy patches that are inevitable in the first few months, I have had an amazing experience with it.

Great update and I'm amazed at your fast progress. We started out at the same weight so it's good to see a comparison.

I, too, have had few issues or problems since surgery. It's been a fairly easy recover with amazing results.

Keep up the good work.

Congrats! Sounds like you are doing just great. And, having the WLS at a younger age allows you to truly turn your life around before any of the obesity health issues become too bad.  Keep up the good work!

Great progress and thanks for posting your ups, downs and routine.  I'm sure that a lot of folks can appreciate what you have been through.  I agree that it is fantastic that you have gained control of your life at such a young age.  That is awesome.  I wish I had that opportunity then but am grateful that I have it now.  Keep up the great job and exercise!!
