Sunday Morning Weigh In - Dedicated to DON!
Happy Sunday Morning to All!
I just wanted to start out quick by giving a HUGE THANKS to Don for his years of service to the Men's forum and tell everyone what an inspiration he has been to me over the past year and to countless others during that time frame. I have some Huge Ones to fill but I'll try my best in kicking off these Sunday Morning Weigh Ins. Don't be a stranger Don!! OK, enough of the Bull**** on with the show...

506.5: All time high 9/9/9 (WW start) - BMI = 63.3
492.4: Tufts Medical Center Program Start 9/20/10
462.5: Lap RNY Surgery day 2/7/11
377.0: Last Week 6/5/11
372.8: This Week 6/12/11 - Lost 4.2 lbs this week - BMI = 46.6
119.6 lbs lost since starting the Tufts program.
133.7 lbs lost from my all time highest weight.
Well another 4.2 lbs down on the scale this week. I will take those numbers and run (you'll get this as you read on). I was able to get to the gym 4 days this week with 60 minutes on the elliptical (4+ mph and level 2) each time. I feel so strong and man do I sweat up a storm during these workouts. I dabbled in some weight machine stuff this week but continue to make the cardio the focus of my time in the gym. I figure do what's going to lose the fat and then I'll start some more intense weight training as I get closer to the 200's. Man that is just a strange feeling to think that I even have the possibility of getting into the 200's. Just 4 1/2 short months ago I would have never thought that possible but now in my mind I'm thinking maybe I can even get into Century CIty some day. Who knows, maybe that is way too thin for my 6'3" frame but we'll take one goal at a time now and not obsess over any of them.
Eating continues to go well. I find myself taking in 2-3 EAS Myoplex Lite shakes a day and have now introduced a MetRx 32 Protein Gram bar to start off the day. It has really been a boost to my energy levels and keeps me full from morning until lunch. Have been expirementing with different foods from time to time. Still avoiding pasta and breads 100%. Just haven't had any good experiences with them yet and just doesn't seem worth it to me. I've discovered that I can eat chips so we don't keep those in the house and will only occasionally nibble on them at parties or other social gatherings. Its for the best!! I also had a couple Absolut & Cranberry drinks at a Bat Mitzvah last night and you know what, everyone had freaked me out so much on the forums about absorption of alcohol post RNY, etc... but I really didn't notice much of a difference from pre-surgery. Had a little buzz and was feeling good but not the wasted feeling that I had been reading about in the forums. I guess each person is different and needs to find out for themselves what their limits are. I definitely know that the alcohol is something that I'll reserve for special occasions because I don't want the empty calories.
Have had some great FARTs this week regarding clothes. If you recall not too long ago I was wearing 7X shirts and 6-7X pants with a stretchy elastic waist band. But now I'm literally fitting comfortably in 3X shirts and paints with waist sizes marked as 60 (note that is the smallest waistband that I have and they are loose). Hoping to get some new clothes for Father's Day. A friend of mine gave me a bag with some 3X basketball coaches shirts and I remember getting these just a few months ago, holding them up and telling him that I'll put them away for when I can fit into them (they looked teany to me at the time and in my mind I was like it will be years before I can fit into those shirts). Well, yesterday I was doing some bundling of clothes for good will and found the bag. Pulled out one of the shirts and it fit perfectly. I was absolutely amazed. I guess I don't see myself as getting that thin yet but the shirts don't lie!! Of course I tried them all on and each and everyone of them fit perfectly. That is crazy!! Just had a thought about all of the 3X shirts that I've collected over the years at golf tourney's and such that never fit. I better go dig them out and wear them while I still can!
Wanted to share another FART that occurred just yesterday. I was getting together the garbage to put out to the curb because my wife had heard the garbage truck enter our neighborhood. I had it all packaged up and remembered that I had to throw away my old pool tarp which was clear aross the yard by my pool. Well I could hear the truck coming towards my house (we live in a fairly small circle neighborhood) and began running to where the tarp was (about 100 yards) but to someone that was recently over 500 lbs the thought of running is something you don't take lightly (No Pun Intended). I begin to jog and as I started going picked up the pace and realized that hey, I'm actually running. (Run, Forest, Run) What is going on? I tell you that it is no lie that I have not run that distance or any distance for that matter in over 20+ years. I just don't do it. Just thought in my mind I couldn't and didn't even try. Well, I ran to the tarp, bagged it up and ran back to the curb with time to spare before the garbage truck made it to my driveway. This FAT man can run!! It was an amazing feeling. I guess all of that time on the elliptical over the past couple months has actually paid off. What an amazing feeling!
Again, thanks DON for all you've done and I hope everyone has a great week and remember to STAY HYDRATED!!

I've been screwing around with a few pounds for the last month -- one day a little higher and the next a little lower. But, finally on the "official" Sunday weigh-in day, I'm seeing the scale move significantly in the right direction. I've been working the assumption that "maintenance" had set in, but perhaps it was just a stall for a few weeks.
I have noticed that my eating desires have changed over the past few weeks as well. I seem to want to eat smaller quantities more often. This seems fine to me as I think I am becoming more responsive to actual hunger rather than just a scheduled meal time. Right now, I am eating something about every 3 hours, which is pretty manageable for me.
Have a good week, guys.

Went to my first support group this week and it was a different experience than I expected. We went camping for the 3 days and I didn't eat as good as I normally do but the scale still is moving in the right direction. Now time to get back on the good eating plan. All and all this continues to be the best decision I've ever made.
Have a great week everyone.

Did you like or dislike your support group experience? Myself and some friends (fellow WLS patients) attend the monthly support group meetings at Tufts Medical Center. There are probably about 100 or so people there each month so its not very intimate but they do a good job and its good to hear a variety of things from success stories to folks contemplating surgery. We then meet in a small setting afterwards and just catch up which is very therapeutic!
Keep up the good work on the scale.
Have a Good Week!

Great job on knocking off another 4 lbs!! I love these firsts. Nice Kayaking FART!! Phew!! I have watched folks kayaking for years and have always said that I want to do it but at my size wouldn't have dared to venture into a kayak. Glad you had fun and that is surely on my bucket list. I am loving these firsts in a long time that we are now able to experience. Looking forward to getting on a rollercoaster at some point this summer. It's been a very, very long time...
Anyway, I'll do my best to pick up where Don left off and thanks for the confidence!!
