Had not updated in a while!
Happy Sunday. This is the first beautiful weekend in Minnesota all season.....and I am sitting in my office trying to to catch up on work (OK, I know, posting on OH is not helping me reach that objective).
I have been incredibly busy lately and have not had time to post, although I have been trying to stay updated on everything you all are up to. What's been making me so busy lately??? Maybe you don't really care, as I get everyone is busy, be just to name a few things - I just changed jobs at work, end of the school year for my 2 teenage kids which always means added calendar commitments, just took over a President of the Board of Trustees for my church, heavily involved in a grassroots organization trying to force a culture change in the school district my kids are part of (may end up in court), and well...just the day to day life stuff!
On Wednesday of this coming week (June 8th) I will be exactly 6 months out from my surgery - Lap RNY. Things have gone extremely well. I don't want the honeymoon to end, even though I know it will.
I have lost approx 135 lbs since I started the process in fall of last year. I have gone from wearing 2X shirts and 3X shorts (size 48-50) to large shirts and large shorts. I could probably even get away with a medium, but I much prefer having a little extra room to move and I usually need the extra length. I found a great consignment shop not too far from me that has more 'upscale' stuff that is work approriate (I have to wear suits every day) but have also bought some new stuff when the price is right.
My goal is to hit 200 and STAY THERE! I am currently at 212.2, so not too far away. The weight loss has slowed somewhat, but still very respectable (1-2 lbs per week). I am starting to get a little conerned about how I STOP losing weight once I hit my goal. I have a Drs appt this week, so that will be a topic of conversation.
But, more than the weight, it is about how I feel. I feel AWESOME. I do have occassional issues with constipation (nothing too major) and for some reason food seems to be sitting really heavy lately (if that makes sense) but other than that, its great. I am working out 3-4 days per week - usually cardio. I still have not gotten into much of a weight routine yet, I am leaving that for the 2nd 6 mos! I can run for 2.5 miles without stopping (at 5.5 mph on the treadmill) and bike for 15-20 miles at a time without too much of an issue (I do have a hip that will need replacement soon, so biking can sometimes be an issue).
Overall, I am so happy with my decision to have RNY and so grateful for all of the support you have all provided through out my first 6 months. Thank You!
All the best - Michael

Great post. Would you have ever in your wildest dreams imagined that you'd be concerned with losing too much weight? What a crazy concept!! I am with you that I am glad that I did the LAP RNY and love my new found energy and freedom. Keep up the great job and sorry to hear that you are "working" today!!
Mike,
Congrats on you success so far. It sounds like you are doing well and that you are making great strides with your lifestyle.
I can relate to foods sitting "heavy." For me, nearly everything eaten in the evenings does, so I have adjusted meals to much lighter at night. it seems to help. You may want to look for a pattern with this issue - either what or when you eat and adjust from there.
Again, great job.
Ken

I was wondering how you were doing. Thanks for the update. Your progress in 6 months is remarkable.
I, too, have been worried about losing too much weight. I'm currently 11 lbs below my doctor's goal weight and 1 lbs below my personal goal. I met with my NUT this week and did some adjustments to diet and exercise routine. Seems to have helped this week and my weight is stabilized.
Keep up the good work.
