Question for the guys!
My husband is 5'8 and floats between 245-250 lbs and is getting ready to have VSG in July. I was curious from you men who have had WLS what can he expect to losse?
I had RNY so I'm not sure what to expect with him. I know men loose weight faster than us gals.
Because I'm 4 years out I want to help him and be supportive without soundling like a bossy wife. Any ideas or tips?
TIA
Ashley!

Having the VSG will allow him to have a bit more give in his food choices without the risk of dumping. As for what he can lose well if he follows his surgeons protocol her should get to a normal BMI relatively quick.
I would say support him but don't try and force him into living your lifestyle. To start with remind him of his vites and when to drink help him keep track of his fluids and protein, once he has it under control then let him run with it.
My wife hasn't nor does she need WLS surgery but when she tries to over monitor and stuff it really gets to me.
Good Luck and send him to this board for questions. We answer it like no one can!

He's using the same surgeon that I used 4 years ago. So far from the paperwork he's been given on VSG it looks pretty close to my RNY stuff.
I still dump after 4 years so I'm hoping he doesnt have to experience that. As we know, it's not fun.
I hope I can keep my comments at bay I just want the best success for him. I want to help him and be supportive thru this journey without coming across as a "know it all" if you get what I mean? lol
Men can be so hard headed
I've got him in the habbit of taking his pre-op vits at the same time as I take mine. I will make him protein shakes when I make mine etc. I hope this will help him get into the new life post-op fairly quickly.
I will send him this way!
Thanks!
Ash ;o)

It really depends how committed he is to the process. I now people that follow the program and do very well. I also know of a couple of people that don't and suck down milk shakes and gain weight.
The VSG is a great tool. As with all WLS if you use the tool correctly then you will succeed. If you don't...Then oh well.
The first year is the most critical. That's when a majority of the weight falls off. After that it becomes more difficult. During that Honeymoon phase it's important to develop good habits such as nutrition and exercise.
I would say be supportive but not overbearing.
Good luck

Well, assuming he met the criteria for WLS, he will probably lose around 100 lbs. or so .. That would put him right at an ideal weight for his height, btw ..
