WOW MOMENT FOR ME!!!!!!!!!!
Well i know its late but I have to post this....In March of 2010 i was starting my program in Portland to have gastric bypass surgery, at that time i weighed 520 pounds...my highest weight that i know of was in 2006 when i was hospitalized weighing in at 544 pounds. Well tonight is 5 1/2 months since surgery and i weighed in @ 320 pounds!!!!!!! My eyes must have been the size of basketballs....for those of you that can't subtract that means i have lost 200 pounds in 13 months....WOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for all of your support!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It happens so fast your head will spin!! After awhile you become a scale whoore...Getting on the thing 4-5 times a day...Then you hit the stall (and think you're done losing...It was a great ride while it lasted)...Then the scale moves again!! I tell people it is like an amusement park ride...Not knowing what is around the next turn. Soon the mental side of WLS will become harder than the physical side. You get treated better in society. Pretty women will catch your eye and say hello. Hang on cause you don't know what's around the next corner!! Enjoy the ride...
Congratulations! I remember that I lost a ridiculously huge amount of weight in the first 18 months following my RNY in 2000. I went from 570+ to 335. But, then I started to gain back some weight. I was alarmed and contacted the surgeon. He said it was not unusual ro regain 20% of the excess weight that had been lost. He considered my surgery to be a success. I had originally been aware that my goal weight would be the weight where many men were starting their weight loss journies. I just accepted that. There was no Men's Forum back then. I tended to contact other super morbidly men who I found by looking for any positings by men, reading their profiles, and contacting them through OH. Most of these men had the same problems I was having. In addition, I found a few who were even more like me in that they are bi-polar. As an aside, I can compare mental illness to heart disease in that any 2 people can have the same disease but that it may be at far different stages in either of them. That is, I was able to work when I was first diagnosed but could no longer work within another 2-3 years. I didn't have RNY until almost 8 years after that.
Once I found the Men's Forum, I found that it is possible to lose more than 200 lbs following the WLS but that any weight lost at that point would be more because of following the proper post-op diet, getting in fluids, and exercising. You can look at my profile to see how I failed with them.
Continue to be diligent in following your food plan. Get in your exercise. And, continue to post here. Surely you can post on other forums but we get many new men here who are already benefitting throught your posts. And, this is a safe place to share your feeling or opinions.

Awesome.

Congratulations, Jeff. You are, indeed, DA MAN... That is absolutely amazing, and I am so very happy for you. We had our surgeries about the same time, but you had already lost a bunch by then, and it still amazes me how you did that before the surgery... And since then you've kept on losing.
Keep up the great work, and before long you'll hit 260, and will have lost half of your former self. It's just 60 lbs away - almost a "rounding error" to what you've lost already!
