I never imagined LIKING a chore.

We finally got enough of a break from the rain that I could cut my lawn tonight. Well.. okay.. The ground was really too wet and the mower's wheels left some muddy ruts.

But the sun was out and the temperature was warm enough to allow me to wear a sleeveless tee shirt.

And I actually enjoyed mowing my lawn.

It wasn't a chore like it was a couple of years ago when every step brought pain in my feet, my ankles and my knees.

I didn't break out into a sweat.

I finished the job in less than an hour, instead of taking two hours like it did when I weighed more than 500 pounds.

And when I was done.. my wife had me take out the trash.

Life is pretty good, wouldn't you say?

I can relate.  When my self propelled walking mower gave up the ghost after I had my gastric I borrowed my brothers regular, non self propelled, mower to do the part of the yard I do with a push mower.  It was a, pardon the pun, piece of cake!  I figured what the heck and when I went to replace my mower I bought a regular, plain Jane, non self propelled, mower.  Not only was it a couple hundred bucks cheaper than the others but it is great exercise to use!

Never, and I mean NEVER, trust a fart!!

My story is a bit different, because I've got a 10.5 acre property to mow...  I have a John Deere tractor with a 6-foot wide rear-mounted mower, and it still takes about 8-9 hours to get it all mowed.  Lots of trees to mow under and around, very rough and uneven ground that keeps the speed down, and some steeply sloped areas that require extreme caution results in it taking a lot longer than the tractor is capable of doing if it were flat and open with few trees...

But the thing is, last summer it would just about kill me to do that chore...  By the time I finished the mowing, I was totally beat, and even taking a shower was a major production.  Now, after I finish mowing, I still have energy (and desire) enough to take my wife to dinner, or go for a walk, or whatever I want to do.  And my back isn't killing me!

I am SO glad I had the RNY, and really looking forward to all the things I'll be able to do once I lose the next 75-80 lbs.  I can't even conceive of life getting even better than it is now, but I'm sure that it will!  Bring it on!

Hey Jim, I can totally relate.  My yard is about 1 acre and mostly grass.  I have a John Deere L130 and it takes me a good 3 hours to mow the lawn (if I'm bagging and dumping grass).  By the time I finished at almost 500 lbs I had all I could do to put the tractor in the shed and get back in the house.  I think my wife thought I was crazy that riding around on a lawn mower would take some much out of me physically.  I realized that I was pretty much bracing myself with my legs the entire time to not fall either way, etc... and it really was a work out.  Look forward to mowing this year where I'm down 100 lbs already and glad to hear that you said it has gotten much better for you now.  I was curious about that.  Good FART!!

And did I mention NO LOWER BACK PAIN?  That was a huge revelation...  I have shoulder pain occasionally from sleeping in wierd positions (guess I'm just not used to sleeping so soundly since I've "lost" my apnea and my BiPap machine).  And I have tendonitis in my elbow right now.  But the absence of that doggone lower back pain after doing anything at all (no matter how minor) is one of the best things about life after WLS for me...

Oh, I can't wait.  I have sciatica in my left leg which originates from my lower back.  I have already felt an improvement in this and am looking forward to it feeling better as I lose more weight and exercise more.  Good Stuff!
