Go fly a kite!

I wonder if people who are being given a second chance at life with the help of weight loss surgery ever stop being amazed at all the wonderful experiences that come day after day, and sometimes minute after minute?

Today, I did something else that I had not done in more than thirty five years.

I flew a kite.

Unless you ever weighed more than 500 pounds, then perhaps you can' t  appreciate how good it feels to experience even the simple task of walking onto a huge clear field on a sunny, warm and windy day and let the breeze work it's magic.  A couple of years ago  I would have spent the day in a recliner, eating and watching TV on a day like this.

Instead, my wife an I went on a two hour bicycle ride this morning.  The temperatures reached a record high of 82 degrees. When we were on the bike trail, four wild turkeys crossed our path.

As you continue your weight loss journey, do you have difficulty expressing to other people, the joys of doing simple things that you couldn't do before?

Outstanding Herc!  Again, you inspire us all!  The weight loss and all the good health that comes with it brings us back to doing things we did as a child, like fly a kite!  Enjoy and THANK YOU!

Herc, you're a poet - this from a retired English teacher who knows a thing or two about poetry - and obesity.  Mine wasn't so much a case of things I couldn't do, but things I could no longer do well....  At 425 I was still able to play golf - clumsily and only if I could ride in a cart.  I could still "garden," slowly and with frequent breaks for hydration.  I could still walk - in fits and starts for perhaps a half-mile or mile tops.  Then my VSG 4.5 mos. ago.

This past week I walked 27 miles - including two round of golf pushing the clubs - weather is just now breaking, so I plan to get into the yard work tomorrow; and wifey and I have been stripping wallpaper as we continue some major rennovations on our retirement home.

Flying a kite sounds like the perfect idea when I get home from golf on Wednesday - grandson and grand daughter will be here - we have a field next to our house - a fine way to share the afternoon.  Have a pleasant journey as you continue your way to your goal.

Today is signed up for a class to learn to ride a motorcycle. Something I never would have done at my highest weight.

The funny part is when I go check the mail (at the end of the driveway) I watch all the birds in our yard and sing the song from Mary Poppins --Feed the birds toppins a bag. So, I appreciate the flying the kite, and how a simple childrens song can bring so much joy.  I believe I am gonna go fly a kite this next weekend.
