Hey guys, I'm curious to know as I am 10 days post-op and feeling great!  I had a very smooth surgery, a day later I was doing laps around the bariatric floor.  All pain was gone within the 1st week and I am back to work on day 8.  Its been raining a bit in NY and walking outdoors has been difficult.  How long did it takwe for you guys to get back to the gym?  All I am looking for is a treadmill for now w/ muscle toning later in the future.

Just a heads up - I had Lab RNY, not sure how to show this and surgeon info on forums.  Thanks

My doc approved me to start using my treadmill at home 1 week after surgery. But, just a caution. Be sure you start out at slow speeds and keep a mild walking pace.

In the early stages it's not unusual to get light headed or tire easily. Make sure you use the "dead man" quick disconnect so the tread mill will stop if something happens.

High Weight = 310     Surgery Weight = 300   Dr's Goal = 200   My Goal = 190

Ditto that "deadman switch" advice...  I watched a woman at my gym keel over while walking, and she got a nasty "rug burn" from the treadmill continuing after she fell...  Don't know if it was permanent or not, but it sure looked painful!

I got my membership 3 weeks after surgery and started walking right away. I think that my first walk was 5 minutes at 3 mph and a year later I ran my first marathon. Caution: It gets addictive!

I think I was at my 2 week follow up appt that I was cleared to start lifting again.

Do keep in mind that Lifting weights, especially heavy weights will burn more calories and fat that cardio will.
