What Was Your Last Big Meal Before Surgery?

I need to fess up that I was doing for the most part pretty good for the three months prior to surgery but had one "little" indiscretion.  I was eating well and losing weight but I wanted to go out with my friends for a last supper and drinks and chose a place that is famous for its "Grand Slam Burger Challenge".   Well a little over a week before surgery a group of us went out and I had it in my mind that now or never on this challenge.  Just a little background, this is a two pound burger, topped with lettuce, 4 slices of tomato, 4 slices of bacon, 4 slices of cheese, 4 ounces of onion rings and served with a pound of fries.  I know what your thinking.  What the F!  The challenge is that you have to eat it under an hour to get a t-shirt and put your picture on their wall of fame!!  If you finish in 15 mins you get it for free as well.  Well the night I was there some kid did it in just over 14 mins.  I was like how in the world.  I came in just under 45 minutes and got my free t-shirt and picture on the wall of fame!!

Editor's Note:  I felt so sick that I went out side after about 15 mins and barfed it up.  Not how I had envisioned my last supper!!

Anyway, I did it.  I will never do it again, nor would I want to.  On to a happier, thinner and much healthier life!!

Anyone else have any interesting, or not so interesting, last supper's that they want to share?

I don't even remember what my "last" big meal was before surgery. Honestly at 5 years out, it's not even a big deal. I eat pretty normally amounts (had the DS)....it was silly to even stress about what I might miss out on after WLS.

That's good to hear.  At 8 weeks out and barely able to "stomache" 3 ounces of any meat its hard to ever imagine "enjoying" a meal again.  Every meal seems to be a chore and I literally feel its not worth it and would rather just have a protein shake.  I guess time is the key here but its a mentally tough road to get there!

I'm with Scott at three years out it does not matter.  Mine was my mother's chicken fried steak.  Guess what?  I can still eat it - just not in the quanities I used to!  Tasted good the next morning with my poached egg.

Never, and I mean NEVER, trust a fart!!

Yup, that is good to hear.  I never, ever want to eat the quantities of food that I was able to eat in the past.  Just being able to enjoy a small (human size) piece of chicken fried steak in the future makes this journey well worth it.  Thanks.

My last big meal was from Wendy's. I had a triple, large fries, large chili, large frosty, and a large regular coke. This was a 5 or so time a month meal for Me unfortuneately.

Boy can I relate.  My wife and I were getting take out or eating out probably upwards of 4 times a week.  Those calories and meals are not healthy and are very expensive.  We are already putting all the extra cash into our Disney trip!!

 My wife made her famous ( or infamous) sauerbraten with gravy, homemade dumplings, and red cabbage.  No, I'm not German but my wife's father loved German food and peasant music.  So, almost everyone is her family makes Eastern European dishes as well as German food.  We don't live near them, so I invited my recently widowed friend who also appreciates German food.

Post surgery we've found an excellent German restaurant in Wrightstown NJ  which is right next to the combined Dix-McGuire-Lakewood base.  There are many servicemen who spent some time in bases in Germany.  We almost always see men in uniform in the restaurant.

Yeah, I eat less than I used to.  I normally go to any meal including lunch and plan on taking half of it home with me.

That sounds awesome!!  I'm glad that you have found a nice German restaurant that you can enjoy post surgery.  Good stuff!

I too am 5+ years out and I remember exactly what my last meal was. I started at Wendys for a few Junior Bacon's and then it was on to my favorite pizza place for a large pizza. From there it was off too Hooters for 10 hot wings to cap off the night. Total mileage for the trip was about 120. The next day I started a 1000 calorie a day diet for the week before my surgery. During that week, I went to Philidelphia for the Army-Navy football game and since I was there I HAD to get a couple cheesesteaks. Other than those two I actually did pretty well that week.
