Question on Surgery
The epidural is for pain control. It wasn't my idea... but I was talked into it presurgery and as luck would have it IT DID NOT WORK. They missed the mark in my spine. Needless to say, it didn't bother me because me pain was minimal and I needed no narcotics post hospital stay, just tylenol. Oh by the way I had an OPEN RnY!
I had general anesthesia through IV for my laprascopic RNY. Then a "pain med pump" afterwards in my hospital room. I hardly used the pump and took none of the pain pills they sent home with me. Bloating and gas was more of a pain than pain from surgery.

Sorry for the delay guys, been kind of busy at the office. The Epidural is an option for pain control, given prior to surgery with intentions to subdue pain after. In no way is it a substitute for general. I'm going in for Lab RNY, and was told that I would be given the option. my BMI is currently at 52.6. I don't like the feeling of the insertion of a needle into my spinal cord, my wife didnt get it for our 3 children, I don't think I will ask for it prior to surgery. In any event, I am 4 days away from my procedure...looking forward to joining the losers bench!
