Spring coming on means it is going to start getting warmer. Remember to STAY HYDRATED!! Would hate to see any of us wind up in the ER getting an IV from Nurse Ratched!
Never, and I mean NEVER, trust a fart!!

92.1 lbs lost from my all time highest weight.
Well, down another 2.8 lbs this week. I am at 6 weeks out now and am feeling better each day. The sciatica is still bothering me a bit but I haven't been letting that keep me from exercising. I started exercising a ton last week. I walked every day at lunch for a half hour. I made it to the gym four times where I rode on the elliptical each day (8 minutes is my max and I thought I would die!), rode on the recumbant bike and did a little weight lifting on my arms and legs. Still not going near my mid section until April 1 then I'll be able to push harder with the weights.
I know that I am happy to see another 2.8 lbs down this week which is great but was expecting more. From reading other posts I see that when people begin their exercise regime that their body tries to revolt and hold on to its reserves. Great!! Oh well, I know I did everything right last week. Hit my protein goal each day, took my vitamins each day and also hit my 64 ounces of fluids each day. Haven't gone off plan and have been eating well. I am starting to feel like a million dollars with more and more energy each day.
My daughters had their basketball tournament yesterday and finished out their season. Great day and both girls did awesome. Softball practice starts today and I am going to offer to be an assistant coach. That is something that my weight has been holding me back from doing over the past few years and it literally killed me to sit on the sidelines and bite my tongue. Also, can't wait to hit the golf links this year with less to get in the way of my swing!!
Lookout world, I'm back and here I come...
Surgery: 5-17-10
Last Week: 238.0
This Week: 235.0
Loss This Week: 3.0
Total Loss: 172.0
I had't expected to see a loss this week since I hit the gym only once due to injuries received in last weekend's "tragic" falling-on-my-ass-in-the-bike-aisle-of-a-sporting-goods-store. If the soreness continues, I guess I'll need to see a doctor to add insult to the injury.
Got a bunch of routine labs done (I had 11 vials of blood drawn). Since my surgeon seems to shortcut the labs, I had my PCP order everything recommended by ASMBS. As a result, and honestly based more on what I am reading than from doctor's advice, I am adding a bunch of supplements including the calcium and iron that my surgeon has never told me to add. I am getting close to a one year follow up with the surgeon and even then he seems to order only minimum labs. Nice guy, and probably a good surgeon, but not a stickler on other things.
One last thing, why do I find Nurse Ratched slightly alluring in a "mister, you need an enema" sort of way?

High five on your weight loss this week!! Hope the sports injury isn't serious and only your pride was hurt.
I'm really surprised that your surgeon didn't put you on iron and calcium. But you need to be careful on the timing and dosage for these. Hope you don't mind some suggestions.
I get my iron from a multivitamin that I take first thing in the morning and again with dinner. I use Centrum chewables. Be sure not to take your iron and calcium at the same time. Apparently the body can't process both and you need at least 2 hour space between taking them.
I use Wellesse Calcium & Vitamin D (liquid). Be sure your calcium is Calcium Citrate and not Calcium Carbonate. After WLS we apparently can't process carbonate.
I take my calcium at 10:00 a.m., 2:00 p.m., and just before going to bed. That provides a great spacing between the calcium and iron. Just had my blood work done and my levels were great.
So yesterday, 3/19, was my 11 month surgiversary. I celebrated by running the Spectrum Health Irish Jig 5K and finished in 26:34, which is a new PR for me! Another WooHoo!
Hard to believe its coming up on a year. To think where I was a year ago. Who da thunk???
Have a great week guys! Get out there and be healthy! Mike
