I posted this on the Diet and Exercise Forum, but figured I try here amongst my brothers.

OK, I got way below my expected weight loss. I have been hitting cardio, aerobics, Spinning, running and cycling classes for 8 months.

I decided to start hitting weight seriously again. WLS got me the weight I wanted, but not the body so much.

Anyway, I bought this post workout recovery drink, Myozene. It has all the amino's, creatine and other stuff to feed the muscles at the critical post workout time like 30 minutes after training.

Well it also has a ton of sugar. The theory is it's spike the insulin and then that carries the nutrients to the freshly worked muscles.

But boy, did I dump. I felt so crappy, I had to sit in my car in the parking lot for a half an hour, then came home, took an hour nap and woke up and was so shaky. It wasn't till after a while and eating several times did I start to feel better.

In the AM, I got up a 6 AM and didn't eat until 930, just before I went to the gym. I ate 2 oz of lean beef and 2 crackers I know that was stupid, cause then at 11 is I knocked back this post workout recovery drink. So I'm hoping it was just not eating anything before such a grueling workout.

Has anyone found a post recovery drink with no sugar?

I have been looking for this as well as a pre workout drink. My old staple pre work out was a big glass of No-Xplode and then Size on for post work out. I know I wont be able to handle either of them now.

I wil post here what I find when I find something.

Yeah I tried the Myozene after my workout tonite and felt a lot better. I'm sure on Sunday it was just that I trained on an empty stomach. I too want to try the NO Explode for a pre-workout drink.

i am in the exact same boat as you.  I went way below goal, now I have gained back 10 lbs in muscle.  Went from 426 to 176 in less then 2 years.  Now I am at 186.  I have been doing Crossfit for the past 2 months.  Boy has it made a difference.  I actually have abs and major definition in my arms.  My trainer customized my workout for me.  He has never had a WLS student before so it is a good challenge for him.  My workout is strictly strength training.  I am increasing my weights 5lbs heavier each week.  It is working.  What I have found to work is to go close to paleo.  Not fully as I still love cheese.  I snack on mixed nuts and almonds throughout the day, have about a cup to a cup and a half a day.  I work out at night right after work, so I get home and eat meat.  Burgers, pork, steak, etc. I was eating jerkey as a snack, now I just buy the pre cooked  bacon 72 pack from Sam's club.  Bacon is totally paleo by the way.  It gets me the protein and callories I need.  I burn about 5000 calories a day roughly but am only consuming around 2000-2500.  I just can't eat anymore, and after the shakes for the surgery I am sick of doing shakes.  So my suggestion is to drop all cardio, start doing crossfit and explain that you are a wls patient, and start eating bacon post recovery.  That or a steak.  Still small amounts and trim the fat etc, but that is what I found has been working for me.
