Something is stinking in GA!

So I spent yesterday shopping for some new clothes at stores like Gap, Old Navy and Kohls.  Shops that a year ago was pointless even looking at for myself because they had nothing in my size.  Now they have them in my size and it isn't the largest sizes they carry!   I even put things back because I simply didn't like them and not because they didn't fit.

I bit the bullet and pushed my luck and found out that a size 36 waist fits, was 52 7 months ago before surgery.  I still am in XL shirts and my shoulders probably won't get anymore narrow maybe I will loose some more in the moobs and might eventually fit a L.

For those that follow the exercise and fitness forum I have a number of events this year. THe largest is the Peachtree Road Race here in Atlanta on july 4th. It is a 10k but so popular they had to change the registration format this year from a straight up registration to a lottery for a chance to get one of the 60,000 slots.  The exception is that if you join the ATL track club at a specific membership level you get a spot and early registration, so yep the former fat guy is now a member of a track club.

On top of the 10K I have been asked and accepted a chance to do a Sprint Triathalon in late May. This will consist of a 400yd swim, a 10 mile bike ride followed by a 5k.  I started training for this 2 weeks ago and let me just say OUCH!  Ok getting off a cycle and going straight into a run is not the most enjoyable thing on the planet.  I can pretty easily cycle 11 miles and run 5 miles now so those 2 things by themselves are not to scary, but one after the other.

For the swim section I will start training this weekend at the gym since it has an indoor pool.  Since everything is timed and any drag will make the swim require more effort I can't wear normal swim trunks so I got the type that go down to your knees.  I about died when I realized it was made by Speedo!  yes former big guy wearing a speedo, yes you may all have nightmares with that mental image, but don't worry they look mre like cycling shorts than a thong LOL.

As for the weight well it is an up and down thing with the current 4 pounds and probably will be for another month.  I am a solid 217 now and am actually pretty ok with that number.  When I set out on this journey I wanted to be 185 doctor would like to see the sub 200.  With my exercise I just don't lose like I used to.  Example is Tuesday I weighed in at 215 after 4 days of no exercise, thursday had me at 219 after 2 days of exercise.while exercising I will maintain anything from 216 to 219depending on hydration.

I would rather be a solid healthy looking 215 or so that a sickly looking 190 which is what I think I would be looking like that low.  I will glad spend the next year trading these last 20 or 30 pounds of fat for some additional muscle mass though.

I hope everyone is enjoying their new lives and for those who are preop start making a list of all the things you want to do but currently are unable so you can start marking them off.

That is awesome, Paul.  Could you even begin to imagine a year ago that you would be contemplating purchasing size 36 pants for yourself, let alone joining a track club?  You rock, Paul!

Nice!!! My exercise is starting to increase now after my six week meeting with the NUT. I had to go shopping due to business meetings in Florida, and found that I am in size 42 waits down from 48. The last time I flew I could not buckle the seatbelt on the plane, now I had quite a bit extra length on the strap that I had to take up. Based on eyeballing it it looks like I lost about 13-14 inches around my waist.

Gone from a size 3XL to an XL shirt. Yay!!!

Paul,
You're right, that's a real stinker! And by the way, the mental image of spandex cycle shorts isn't a whole lot better than a speedo. You could have spared us the details...lol

Hi Paul, that is absolutely amazing.  I see you doing all of these things and think wow, I can do this.  I am going to be running a 5K one day soon if it kills me.  I was LMAO about your speedo purchase.  That was the running joke amongst my friends that I'd be in a speedo by summer!  They'd all sh*t if I actually showed up in a pair!!

Funny, you fluctuate with your ideal weight.  May I ask how tall you are?  I have been struggling with an ideal number myself.  I am 6' 3" but if you look at the BMI chart is says that I should be around 200 and I can't even fathom that to be true as I do have some muscle under the flab!!

Anyway, keep up the good work!

I am 6 foot.

Easiest way to do your first 5k is to sign up for one. I did my first one 11 weeks post op at about 270. Who cares if you don't run the whole thing, just doing it is the victory.

Thanks for your height.  It helps to give me a reference point as to where I want to get to.  Great point about the 5K.  I have a co-worker who I go to the gym with and is game for a 5K.  I think we'll hunt for one and make that my goal.  Thanks.

Congrats Paul on all you NSV's. I know how you feel being able to shop at places that were useless to even browse before, and doesn't it blow your mind how much cheaper "Skinny" clothes are. Enjoy your new life buddy you deserve it.
