Ok...it started with a planned 5K run this morning, the Grandville Winter Blast 5K.  I've been training for a 25K in May and a Marathon in October, so Saturday's are usually my "long run" days.  I'm up to 9 miles.  I figured after the 5K (3.11 miles) I would run home and would get in a total of about 8 miles.

My wife wasn't feeling 100% so plans changed.  I drove myself to the run.  On the way, I decided I'll just do the 5k, but I am going to try to go as fast as I can and see if I can break my previous PR of 29 mins.

I finished in 27:04!!!  That's an 8:40 / mile pace!!!  I was thrilled.

When I got home, my wife was feeling better and wanted to go do some shoping.  Some good sales at Kohls, a bonus discount card, and some Kohls bucks to spend before they expire.  So off to Kohls.  Well they are having a pretty good sale and there were lots of men's pants and shirts on the 70-80% clearance rack.  Bottom line, I kept trying on pants and shirts, and going to smaller sizes.  I ended up with 3 shirts cut "SLIM" and 3 pairs of slacks, also cut "SLIM"!!!!  WOW!  I don't ever remember wearing slim cut anything!!!

When we get to the register, with all the discounts and Kohls bucks, the whole thing cost about as much as 1 shirt!!!

It was a sunny beautiful day, so we drove down to the lake shore (Lake Michigan).  It was gorgeous and sunny.  The snow is melting and I am feeling great!

To some, this may not seem like a big deal, but as my wife and I were enjoying lunch at a great place, we were talking and thinking back to a year ago.  WOW...what a difference!

I am so thankful for this awesome journey, the blessing of WLS, and now good health!

Mike, I am so happy for you.  An absolutely amazing run, followed by a great shopping experience, and then spending time at the lake with the love of your life, reflecting on how much your life has changed in a very short year.  Sounds like the perfect day to me!  More inspiration from Grandpa-G...  Keep up the great work!
